A PHYSICIAN'S DUTY TO HIS PATIENT.
I have always felt that a Doctor's duty to his patient was the paramount issue, that it overrides every
other consideration. Your patients have shown their confidence in you by employing you; they expect
the best medical treatment that you can give them, and they have a right to it.
In this enlightened age, no Physician can afford to plead ignorance of the most common remedies
used in the different schools of Medicine. In his ignorance of these remedies he is handicapped in
dealing with diseased conditions. When a Doctor refuses to consult with another Doctor because he
doesn't happen to belong to his particular School of Medicine, or if he refuses to use a remedy because
it doesn't happen to be in. the Materia Medica of the School of Medicine that he is identified with, then
I say that he is not doing his whole duty down to an early grave, because their Doctor followed blindly,
slavishly the "Authorities" of his particular School of Medicine. It is a pity that many of our Physicians
born under the shadow of "Old Glory," rocked in the cradle of Liberty, yet they are cowed down by a
slavish fear of the "Powers that would be" of their particular School of Medicine.
Brothers! Are we freemen or are we slaves? If we are freemen, then let us use the brains God has
given us to use for suffering humanity, and not depend upon Borne one else's brains to tell us our duty
to the sick. When I graduated at Dartmouth Medical College, N. H., one of our Professors said to the
class, "Boys, you want to be Captain of them all." I understood what he meant and took his words to
heart, and resolved then and there, that I would be "Captain of the whole." To do this I decided first
that I must rid myself of all prejudice against any School of Medicine; that I would study the Materia
Medica and Practice of all Schools of Medicine to fit myself to heal the sick. I took up one School of
Medicine at a by his patient.
To refuse the help of a brother Physician is a greater responsibility than I personally would dare to
take upon my shoulders. We should remember that there is a remedy somewhere for every diseased
condition, and it is your business and mine to find the remedy and use it. If not, then we have not done
our whole duty.
During the Civil War a Regiment was leaving for the front. When the flag was presented to the
Color Sergeant, he said, "I'll return with the flag or report to God the reason why." When we as
Physicians feel that we have done our whole duty, by our patient, that we have left no stone un turned
to. save them, then if death does overtake them, we can with a clear conscience report to God. the
reason why they died. There are many patients that have gone time, and studied the Materia Medica
and Practice of that particular, School, and practiced that system of therapeutics exclusively for several
years to test the remedies myself at the bedside of the sick.
In this way I took up the five different Schools of Medicine and not only studied them, but practiced
them. In this way I learned Materia Medica, and it is the only way to learn it thoroughly. After I had
gone through this course of study I could say as in the Talmud, "I know my power, because I have
learned from many teachers."

I felt that I, was then fitted to heal the sick, and to teach other Doctors how to heal the sick. It has taken
me 44 years to accomplish what I started out to do, but it has been time well spent.
The sole purpose of our Association is to hellp our Physicians of all Schools to be better Physicians,
to fit them to do more for the sick than they are doing. Better success means the lessening of mortality,
the saving of human life. It means more practice and a bigger income for the Doctor.
Within the past year I have reports of twenty-five cases of appendicitis cured by medicine, after the
Surgeons, said nothing but an operation would save them. Poor people can't afford to have this disease.
It is a luxury that only the rich can afford, for it means from 500 to 1,000 dollars, or as much as the
victim will stand.
The "Wisconsin Medical Recorder," Janesville, Wis., in the April number of that Journal, has
published an article by our President on "The American Association of Progressive Medicine." The
Editor, Dr. Frank Van Kirk, has shown a good deal of kindness and liberality in publishing such an
article. Our brothers should send for copy of April number. Show your appreciation of the Editor's
courtesy. Dr. Van Kirk is fully in sympathy with the object or our Association.
I am pleased to inform our readers that a paper will be read at our next Convention on the
"Therapeutics of Cancer," by Sir Robert Bell, M.D., F. R. F. P. S., London, England. He is the
acknowledged authority on Cancer in Great Britain. In speaking of my book on "Cancer, Its Causes,
Symptoms, and Treatment," he said, "I have read your book with great interest and profit, and I am
delighted to see that you and I so cordially agree. I intend to quote largely from your book in the 2nd
edition of my book, "Cancer, Its Causes and 'Treatment."
Dr. Horace R. Powell, Poughkeepsie, has been "courting." He has been called as an expert witness
in three cases in court. He is ex-President Alumni Association, Albany Medical College.
Dr. A. J. Johnson, Muscogee, Fla., is one of my youngest students, but he is making a record in the
"Land of Flowers. Within six weeks he had three fractured forearms, four fractured femurs at hip in
old ladies above 75, one compound, comminuted fracture of Tibia and Fibula, and one amputation at
upper third of forearm, with a negro boy for an assistant. The Doctor has made some fine cures of Pellagra.
Dr. Samuel H. Starbuck, Seattle, Wash., reports having been called as a witness in several cases of
insanity in the Superior Court of that city; also, three hundred cases of Cancer treated an only three
failures, and yet there are some people woo say that "Cancer can't be cured."
BULLETIN No.7; D 33:IRRITABLE HEART TR. GEDITSCHIA.
I have letters of enquiry about the above remedy. It is obtained from the pod of the "Honey Locust"
that grows in the West and South. so I am informed by Dr. W. H. Young, Springdale" Ark. He tested
the remedy on himself. In chewing the pods, he found that they tasted like table honey, but caused the
peculiar symptom of the heart, for which he prescribes them Homeopathically. Dr. Young has the
honor of having added one new remedy to our definite Materia Medica. He has been located in
Springdale eleven years, and reports no deaths in that time.
Dr. P. B. Thatcher, Philadelphia, Pa., formerly Editor "Physicians Business Journal," has been
appointed Chairman of "The Commission on Intra.Venous Medication." This Commission will make a
thorough investigation of the subject, and render their report at our next Convention. Dr. Thatcher has
a wide circle of medical friends. He believes in our Association and will use his influence to add to our
membership.
PENNSYLVANIA IS OUR LEADING STATE.
Pennsylvania still clings to first place; Ohio, second; Missouri. third; New York, fourth; Oklahoma,
fifth, and Iowa in sixth place. Ohio threatened to grasp the coveted position during the month, being
tied with the leader. Missouri has edged away from New York. Iowa has come up nicely In ,the race,
thanks to the good work of Dr. H. S. Huckins. California is surely coming fast, and with her present
stride will make the leaders hustle. What has become of the grand State of Illinois?

Dr. G. S. Farquhar, Zanesville, Ohio, another of my students, has taken a year's vacation. After
many years of active practice he feels the need of rest. The Doctor has built up a splendid reputation by
his success in healing the sick.
In every town where you find a doctor who has mastered "Definite Medication" and studied the
Materia Medica of all schools of Medicine, you will find a man full of business, and making a
reputation by the cures he makes. The most of these Doctors have more practice than they can attend
to.
Dr. Brose Horne, Gas City, Ind., a prominent physician and a member of our "Grand Brotherhood,"
reports a life saved of a little baby, and he tells how he did it in "E 45." When 1 read such reports, I say
"Thank God, another life saved." Dr. Horne is fitting himself to heal the sick, and he will do it.
Dr. M. A. Carriker, Nebraska City, Neb_, reports case of Cancer of Uterus, been operated on,
brought home from Omaha on stretcher, had been given up to die; has been one month under Dr.
Carriker's treatment, and is getting better.
REMEDIES FOR THE LUNGS.
Sometimes your patient will get a severe cold; it seems settled on the lungs, or it may be after an
attack of Pneumoniar. It will cause you to fear Consumption. If the expectoration is salty, sputa thick,
greenish color, seems to come from low down, as from mid-sternum; with night-sweats, great general
weakness, give Iodide Potash four grains in 4 ounces of water. Dose, teaspoonful once in three hours.
After a severe attack of Pneumonia or Bronchitis, it may seem as if the patient was going into
Consumption. There will be hectic flush on cheeks, a loose cough with bad smelling sputa; the breath
and sputa smelling badly to the patient himself; this condition indicates Sanguinaria lx, three tablets
every two hours.
In many cases of obstinate lung troubles, when there is an acute, sharp, fixed or darting pain in the
apex and through upper third of right lung, it makes us think of Arsenicum 6x, three tablets once in 3
hours.
In advanced cases of Consumption, we sometimes get stitching pains in lower right lung, with
profuse expectoration of pus-like appearance; here we find Kali Carb, the remedy needed, 3x, three
tablets once in 2 hours.
When in lung troubles there is loose cough with soreness through left lung, cough hurts the patient
so much they will always sit up when coughing; it makes us think of Natrum Sulph. 6x, three tablets
once in 3 hours.
In Pneumonia with hacking cough, worse at night; cough worse when lying on left side;
difficulty. of breathing from sensation of weight on the chest, this calls for Phosphorus. Give Tr.
Phosphorus 3x dil., 15 drops in half glass of water, teaspoonful every 2. hours.
In incipient Consumption with obstinate cough (dry), pain in upper part of left chest, straight
through to shoulder blade, it indicates Tr. Myrtus Communis (Myrtle) 3x dil., 10 drops every 2 hours.
In Infantile Pneumonia with chest loaded with mucus, rapid wheezing respiration; surface blue, face
pale, Ipecac is the remedy indicated. We think of Ipecac in old people with Emphysema from chronic
Asthma. Here you will find. Ipecac a friend in need.
In Consumption, Croup, Bronchitis or Laryngitis, one symptom should never be forgotten. Patient
coughs when any part of the body becomes uncovered. Here Hepar Sulph. is the Remedy-6x.
Study carefully the indications of the above remedies, and fix them in your minds, for they will help
you to make some cures that will astonish the natives.
THERAPEUTIC FACTS.
E 29. HEMORRHOIDS.
For the large grape-like hemorrhoids, an ointment of Pul. Sanguinaria 30 grs. to one ounce of Lanoline,
to which a few drops of Phenol is added as a preservative, kept constantly applied will cure. If a clot
has formed in the pile, it will be necessary to lance and turn the clot out.

E 30. ATROPHIC RHINITIS.

A strong decoction of "Bull-nettle" used as a nasal douche three times a day, with the internal
administration of the same in sufficient quantity to keep the bowels loose, will cure this condition in
several months time. Use enough of the decoction. It is not poisonous.
The great difference between the old "Shot-gun" way of prescribing for the sick, and "Definite
Medication" is this: The old shot-gun practice never hits anything. It makes business for the undertakers. "Definite Medication" is the rifle practice; it hits the bull's eye and brings down the game every
time. The little book on "Definite Medication" is now on the desk for daily reference, by Doctors in
every state and territory, and in 20 foreign countries. It tells the busy Doctor definitely what to do for a
sick person. The sale of the book has broken all records. It has been the means of bringing hundreds of
physicians out of darkness into light, and 'help them to save very many precious lives.
"Go little book, from this, my solitude!
I cast thee on the waters, go thy ways!
And if, as I believe, thy aim is good
The world will find thee after many days."
E 31. DROPSY.
In any dropsical condition when the tissues seem water-logged; try the following and see how quickly
you can eliminate the effusion: Elaterium Alk. granules gr. I-6th, three every hour until it causes
purging, along with "Anasarcin" tablets, two tablets 4 or 5 times a day. Apocynin gr. I-12th, two
granules three or four times a day. Sparteine Sulph. two grains every two hours to equalize the
circulation and tone up the heart's action. If the Elaterium causes vomiting it better be dispensed with.
It will carry off lots of water. After getting its full effect, it Is best to use it every second or third day.
E 32. FOR ALL FORMS OF RHEUMATISM.
Sp. Eupatorium, one dram, Kali Acetatis, two drams, Aqua q. s., four ounces. Mix. Sig. Teaspoonful in
half glass of water every two to four hours. Give "Lime Sweat" once daily. Wrap one or two pieces of
unslacked lime in damp cloth, and place it on either side of the affected parts, and allow It to slack
until free perspiration ensues. (See page 30 "Definite Medication.")
E 33. ACONITE AND BELLADONNA.
Considering the effect of Belladonna and Atropine in ordinary local congestions by determining the
blood to the surface, will not ail inflammatory conditions be aborted by their use, to the point of
producing their physiological action? If not obtained, will not their use in this manner increase the
benefit to be derived from the use of Aconite and Veratrum?
E 34. ANEURISMS.
I have had splendid success with the following method in curing Aneurisms. Keep the pulse down to
65 with Veratrine, and give the following: Sp. Ergot, one dram, Sp. Hydrastis, two drams, Calcarea
Phos., one dram, Fe. Phos., half dram, Aqua q. s. ad., four ounces. Mix. Sig. Teaspoonful four times a
day.
E 35. CONSTIPATION.
Salt and sugar aa one dram to water one pint. Inject this into the rectum every morning, for
constipation.
E 36. CANCER TREATED HYPODERMICALLY.
This formula has never failed in any case that I could reach by the hypodermic
syringe. Flext. Echinacea (Lloyd), four drams, Flext. Thuja, two drams, Alcohol 95 per cent, half dram,
Glycerin C. P., one ounce, Flext. Gelsemlum, four drams, Aqua Dist. q. s., four ounces.

Mix. Sig. Inject 15 minims all around growth. It stops the pain, and helps to absorb them.
E 37. INJURY TO FINGER NAIL.
When a boy is playing base-ball and he gets his finger nail almost jerked off by the ball, or when a
carpenter mashes his finger nail, and the fingers turn black, try the following: Sp. Echinacea,
Sp. Lobelia aa, four drams, Aqua pura q. s., four ounces. Mix. Sig. Wet gauze with above wash and
bind it around fingers.
E 38. ERYSIPlLAS FEVER.
For over 50 years I have practiced in this town. In my younger days Lobelia carried me through a
wonderful siege of what they called Erysipilas Fever. Symptoms began with vomiting, high fever
would travel from the stomach to the mouth, then on the face; It often affected the brain. About 8 out
of 10 cases died. In one- locality 14 were buried in a week. When I vias called to treat a case, I
prescribed Tr. Lobelia one dram to water four ounces. Sig. Give a teaspoonful every 20 minutes
according to the vomiting. I treated in all 82 cases with only one death. I gave the Labella internally in
doses suited to the age. Externally applied Lobelia and flaxseed poultice.
E 39. SORE OR ULCERATED HEELS.
When there is pain or soreness in heel, or a feeling as if the hamstring tendons were contracted,
Ammonium Muriate is the remedy, 3x, three grs. every 3 hours.
E 40. STOMATITIS MATERNA.
An excellent treatment for this condition is to add Muriate Hydrastin gr. ten to water four ounces. Mix.
Sig. Use as a mouth wash 4 times a day.
E 41. CHRONIC CATARRH OF THE BLADDER.
I use daily injections of Muriate Hydrastin gr. 10 to water 8 ounces. First draw off the urine with a
catheter, then inject the above fluid into the bladder once a day. The thick ropy mucus in the bottom of
the vessel is a strong Indication for the Hydrastin. Give Muri ate Hydrastin 3x, three grs. once in 3
hours internally.
E 42. AN EXCELLENT EMMENAGOGUE.
It often happens that a woman will get cold when the "Monthly period is on,"~ the flow will stop' then
they get a fearful headache; sometimes epistaxis. They need a remedy to start the flow, and relieve the
headache. I give Tr. Aconite, gtts. two, Tr. Cimicifuga, gtts. twenty, Aqua q. s., four ounces. Mix. Sig.
Teaspoonful once in half an hour until flow starts again.
E 43. TREATMENT OF PHTHISIS PULMONALlS,
For the treatment of this disease, at least in the early stage, nothing has given me such good results as
the following. I would urge all our Progressive Physicians to give it a trial; Guiacol, one and one-half
drams, Creosote, fourteen minims, Sp, . Ampelopsis, two drams, Sp. Collinsonia, one dram,
Sp. Sanguinaria, one dram, Glycerin, two ounces, Spts. Vini rect. q. s., three ounces. Mix. Sig. Begin
the flrst 3 days with 15 drops after each meal in plenty of water. Increase one drop a day, until the
dosage reaches 30 drops three times a day, and continue that dose. . If patient expectorates pus-like
sputum, saturate with Calcium Sulphide, half gr. every three hours, for three days. If there is soreness
01 the throat or chest, drop half dram of Tr. Iodine on a piece of cotion, and set flre to it in the room
where it will be inhaled for several seconds by the patients. Inhaling coal oil is also good for the patient. I have the utmost confidence in the above treatment, and I think it will be worth a year's dues to
any 01 our members.
E 44. FOR STOMACH COMPLAINTS. CHRONIC.

Sp. Nux. Vomica, gtts. 32,

Tr. Gentian Comp., one and one-half ounces,
Elix. Lact. Pepsin q. s., four onnces.
Mix. Sig. Teaspoonful in water, 20 minutes before meals.
The above has stood the fire of experience.
E 45. A SPLENDID CURE.
I was called to see a new-born baby, only two or three days old. They had three Doctors; all had given
it up to die. It was vomiting blood, also passing blood. I gave it:
Sp. Hamamelis,
Flext. Hydrastis,
Flext. Ergot aa, one ounce.
Mix. Sig. Five drops every three hours. Also 5 grains Carbo. Veg. Ix every 2 hours. The baby
recovered, and is living today.
E 46. THE FEVER THERMOMETER.
The thermometer held in the mouth, when placed under the right side of tongue, then read, and place it
under the left side and read it. Please note the difference of the two sides. A difference of 2 to 4
degrees.
E 47. A TABLET FOR CROUP.
Ferrum Phos. 3x,
Kali Mur. 3x,
Spongia 3x aa., gr. one.
Mix. Sig. One tablet for child every 15 minutes to half hour, dissolved on the tongue. It has never
failed to abort this troublesome condition quickly.
E 48. RHUS. TOX. POISONING.
Quinine is supposed to be specific in ivy poisoning. Add 2 ounces of Quinine Sulph. to 6 ounces of
water and apply. Laxatives are in line.
E 49. TO COMBAT SHOCK.
Raising the foot of the bed 12 inches may overcome shock more quickly than stimulants, and is far less
harmful to the patient, because on account of the lowered blood-pressure and loss of circulatory force,
the brain is not supplied with blood, and there is cerebral anemia.
E 50. DIAGNOSTIC POINTS OF BRIGHT'S DISEASE.
Puffiness about the eyes, especially in the morning; a smooth, red, clean tongue; also momentary
numbness of a finger.
E 51. IS IT BRONCHITIS OR CONSUMPTION?
If it is Bronchitis the hectic fever comes on toward noon; that of Consumption toward evening.
E 52. SALOL AND BISMUTH.
A compound powder of Salol and Bismuth is a favorite with some of our Doctors for ulcer of stomach,
chronic Gastritis, etc., etc. I have been called to see patients where this powder had been prescribed in
the above diseases, and often the call was a ""Hurry Call," for the patient was thought to be dying. I
found all action suspended in the stomach. Feet and hands cold as ice. Pulse scarcely perceptible. It
was wiry. I sat by the bedside of the patient with my hand on the pulse. I gave Glonoin 1-250th gr. in
teaspoonful of hot water, in 5 minutes another dose.

As soon as the pulse came up, face flushed and head felt big, I let up on this remedy, then gave
Arsenate of Strychnia, gr. 1-134th, 3 granules every 3 hours. This treatment toned up the heart action
and saved the patient. Now, the cause of the condition was this: The vile compound of Salol and
Bismuth has coated the stomach all over with a thick coating, and stopped all action of the stomach, As
a result of this bad therapeutics the patient would have been dead without prompt treatment. I have no
doubt that many have been hurried out of the world by such maltreatment. Beware of it.
E 53. THE PRICE A WOMAN HAS TO PAY FOR AN ABORTION.
When a woman wants to have a miscarriage, it is well to inform her of the price she will have to pay.
When we violate the laws of Nature, we must pay for it. As a result of an abortion, the breasts may
shrivel, and in some cases no bosom at all. She has shrunken limbs and hairy face. She becomes a
neurasthenic, cross and irritable. Subject to spinal trouble. Her womb has been cheated; it becomes
enlarged hard and gristly; it is liable to ulceration, congestions and tumors, and the woman feels
miserable and discontented. Is it worth the price?
E 54. PESSARIES AND DISPLACEMENT OF UTERUS.
In a large majority of cases of displacement of uterus, the real cause is enlargement of uterus. It sags
down by its own weight. In such cases pessaries will never cure in 1,000 years. The thing to do is to
remove the cause, that is, reduce the size of the organ and it will fall back in its natural position. We
have an organ remedy that is made for such cases-Tr. Fraxinus Americanus (White Ash). Give 10
drops 3 times a day. It will reduce the size of the uterus.
E 55. HINTS ON PREGNANCY.
In the last month of pregnancy, some ladies will complain that it is difficult for them to walk about. A
very short walk seems, to tire them out. Here Tr. Bellis Perennis (English daisy) is the remedy, 5 drops
3 times a day.
E 56. NEURITIS.
A lady consulted me for stinging pains in different parts of her body. She had consulted several
Doctors, among them a nerve specialist. They could not diagnose the disease, or give her any help. In
reading the pulse I detected a spasmodic tension. In this case it indicated Neuritis and also Magnesia
Phos. 3x, three tablets every 2 hours; also Tr. Hypericum (St. John's wort) 3x dil., 10 drops once in 3
hours, and it cured her.
E 57. PROLAPSUS UTERI.
This is a condition where the surgeon often amputates the neck of the uterus. It is cruel and entirely
unnecessary. We have certain remedies that will help us to cure this trouble, and there is no excuse for
an operation. Our profession will have to answer some day for this mutilating, un sexing and degrading
of our American women. "Definite Medication" explains how such cases can be cured without
operation.
E 58. ENLARGEMENT OF GLANDS.
If the glands feel soft, Iodine is needed as follows:
Iodide Potash, grs. 100,
Iodine, gr. 5,
Aqua, one dram.
Dissolve Iodine and Potash, then add lard one ounce.
Mix. Sig. Apply night and morning, rubbing it well into the gland.
Give Kali Mur. 3x, three grains every 3 hours. If the glands are hard, with stony hardness, give Cal.
Fluor. 6x, three tablets every 3 hours. Apply granular Chloride of Lime one dram in 2 ounces of lard,
night and morning.

E 59. ACONITE AND FERRI. PHOS.

The stage of fever indicating Aconite is short-lived. In that stage we get a high grade of arterial
excitement. The pulse is hard, full and quick. By the time the Doctor reaches the bedside, the stage of
invasion or hyperaemia has passed, and another remedy is indicated. Ferri Phos. follows well after
Aconite, for now the pulse instead of being hard, full and quick, is full and soft, indicating Ferri Phos.
Don't get in the routine practice of giving Aconite in all cases of fever and inflammations, for it is only
to be given when indicated.
E 60. INTERMITTENT FEVER.
Don't expect Quinine to cure all cases of intermittent fever, because it won't. In this form of fever,
where there is persistent nausea in all stages of the fever, Ipecac is the remedy, 3rdx dil. When patient
has chill, from 7 to 9 in the morning; intense aching in bones before the chill; vomiting of bile between
chill and heat, it indicates Eupatorium Perfoliatum 3x dil., 15 drops in half glass of water, teaspoonful
every hour. In cases of intermittent fever suppressed, not cured by Quinine, when the chill is between
10 and 11 A. M. with bursting headache during the hot stage, Nat. Mur. 6x is the remedy. Red face
during the chill, thirst during chill and no other stage, chill relieved by external heat, heat aggravated
by external covering indicates Ignatia 3x dU., 15 drops in half glass of water, teaspoonful once in 2
hours. Cough during chill, restless and dry tongue, triangular red tip; toss. ing about calls for Rhus. tax.
During heat can't uncover in the least without chill, indicates Nux. Vom. 3x dil. Fix the indications in
your mind, and it will help you to make some "Rapid fire cures."
E 60 1/2. NITRIC ACID IN HEMORRHOIDS.
When the anus is cracked and fissured, piles protrude; crack and bleed, and very sore; great pain after
passage of even soft stool, Nitric acid is the remedy needed, 3x dil., 15 drops in half glass of water,
teaspoonful every 2 hours.
E 61. SWEETS AND ARGENTUM NITRICUM.
Women sometimes have a great longing for sweet things, candy and sugar. They have flatulence and
great distension of stomach and abdomen. The gas rises easily and in volumes, and discharges in both
directions with great noise. The tongue is thickly coated white, and there is a craving for sweets. The
indicated remedy is Argentum Nitricum 6x, three tablets every 3 hours.
E 62. PERSPIRATION OF THE FEET.
When women, "Fat, fair and forty," complain of sweating feet, stockings always damp, give Calcarea
Carb. 3x, three tablets every 3 hours.
E 63. SWOLLEN WRIST JOINTS IN RHEUMATISM
When the joints are swollen, red, motion impossible, touch unbearable, it indicates Tr. Actea Spicata
(Baneberry), 5 drops, in wine glass of hot water every hour.
E 64. AVERSION TO SWEETS.
When there is a decided distaste of sweet things, with a sweetish taste in the mouth, it calls for Zincum
6x, three tablets once in 3 hours.
E 65. LUMBAGO.
Take equal parts of Specific Bryonia, Gelsemium and Cimicifuga, mix well. Give 7 to 10 drops in a
little hot water every hour until relieved. I know it will cure, and do it quickly for I have tried it
several times. This is one of the many valuable things in "Definite Medication."
E 66. URETHRAL CARUNCLE.

The best local application for urethral caruncle is a spray through an atomizer, of Succus Calendula
diluted one-half with hot water. It will remove the soreness and stinging pains. The cure for it is
surgical.
E 67. A QUICK CURE.
An old man age 83 has chronic Bronchitis, he took cold, and had some kind of cough medicine that
stopped his cough. When I saw him he was all choked up struggling for breath. I gave him Tr.
Gelsemium gtts. 15, Tr. Ipecac gtts. 15, in goblet of water, teaspoonful once in half hour. Applied an
ointment spread on white cloth (about a tablespoonful over the upper part of his lungs. The ointment
was made from the old "Compound powder of Lobelia" called "Ka-O-Tol." It is made of Lobelia
Symplocarpus, Sanguinaria, Asclepias, Capsicum and Glycerin. "Medicine Products Co.,"
Philadelphia, Pa. In half an hour, he was relieved and went to sleep. The next day he said he felt better
than he had in 6 months. As a local application for Croup, Pneumonia, Pleurisy, Asthma, it will be
found an excellent remedy. Thus we see that prompt treatment with the right remedies saved another
life.
E 68. BISMUTH IN CHOLERA INFANTUM.
This remedy is indicated in Cholera Infantum when watery profuse painless stools, very offensive and
cadaverous smelling; also intense thirst and vomiting of water as soon as it touches the stomach. The
skin is Warm, but the face is deathly pale, with rings around the eyes: Gin Bismuth 2x, 2 grs. every 2
hours.
E 69. TO CLEAR THE URINE OF ALBUMEN AND PREVENT CONVULSIONS IN CHILDBIRTH.
Give Flext. Queen of the Meadows, 15 drops 3 times a day. If albumen is found in the urine in the last
month of pregnancy, the above remedy should be given.
E 70. LACTATION.
For milk fever, engorgement of breasts, Aconite 3x dil., Bryonia 3x dil., in alternation. When the milk
of a nursing woman is profuse, thin, does not satisfy the child, and may refuse to nurse, give Calcarea
Carb. 6x, 3 grs., once in 3 hours. In weaning, to prevent engorgement, Tr. Bryonia 3x, 5 drops. every 3
hours.
E 71. SORENESS IN UTERUS.
If a lady strains herself by lifting, or takes a long walk, she will some time complain of considerable
soreness in lower part of abdomen. I have quickly relieved such cases with:
Tr. Cimicifuga,
Tr. Gelsemium aa., gtts. 20,
Aqua q. s., six ounces.
Mix. Sig. Teaspoonful once an hour.
E 72. STERILITY.
Induration of the cervix Uteri is a frequent cause of sterility. Conception cannot take place, because the
ovum slips out of the Uterus before it is fertilized. We have one remedy that we can depend upon in
such cases to soften the induration give Aurum Muriaticum Nat. (Double chloride Gold and Sodium)
3x, three grs. one hour after each meal. It not only softens the induration, but increases the strength and
appetite, and the woman, if married, will soon be "In the way women like to be who love their lords."
E 73. FRIGIDITY.
The absence of sexual desire is another cause of sterility. The more passionate a woman is, the more
apt she is to conceive. Women get worn out' with work and worry, they lose all sexual passion. A

young married woman consulted me. She and her husband were anxious to have a baby, but she had no
sexual desire at all. I gave her Flext. Saw Palmetto (P. D. and Co.) 20 drops in a little water after
meals. In two or three months, I was informed that conception had taken place, and in due. time gave
birth to a healthy child.
E 74. ULCERATION OF OS UTERI.
In the course of very many years' practice, I have had to treat many cases of ulceration of the Os Uteri.
I usually prescribe Tr. Belladonna 1x dil., 5 drops every 3 hours, in alternation with Fowler's solution
of Arsenic, 3 gtts. every 3 hours. Every other night have the patient apply "Medicated uterine wafer"
(Micajah and Co.). This has been my practice, and it has never failed to cure. Sexual intercourse must
be abstained from during treatment.
E 75. CHRONIC DISEASES.
A physician's success in the treatment of chronic diseases will add greatly to his yearly income. It helps
the Doctor to build up an office business, and this is what we must depend upon to take care of us in
our old age, or when physically unable to attend outside calls. The men that are doing a good office
business are the physicians who have learned how to treat chronic diseases. When I was in general
practice, my office business was what I depended upon for ready cash. All office business should be
strictly cash. Keep your own medicine. If there is any money to be made out of your business, make it
yourself. Don't give half of it to the druggist.
E 76. WHEN BABY REJECTS MILK.
When there is an intolerance of milk, baby vomits' it in large curds, followed by weakness and
drowsiness, we think of, Tr. Aethusa Cynapum 3x dil. (Fool's Parsely), 15 drops in half cup of water,
teaspoonful every 2 hours.
E 77. CHILDREN BORN MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY DEFICIENT.
The baby lies in its cradle, cannot hold its head up, can't learn to walk or talk, we can at least try to do
something for these little ones. If the mother had been given proper treatment during pregnancy, the
chances are she would have given birth to a healthy child. I would prescribe in the above condition, if
the child is scrofulous or tubercular, Baryta Carb. 3x, 3 tablets 3 times a day. In children emaciated,
unable to stand, slow in learning to walk, sunken flabby abdomen, fontanelles and sutures remain open
too long, spine weak, can't hold its head up, delay in teething, give Calcarea Phos. 3x, 3 tablets 3 times
a day. If there is mental deficiency, I would prescribe KaIi Phos. 3x, three times a day, and stick to
that treatment for 2 or 3 months.
E 78. RHUS TOX. IN RHEUMATISM.
This remedy is indicated in rheumatism, when there is lameness, stiffness and pain on first moving
after rest, or getting up in the morning. Feels better after he gets "limbered up."' Tr. Rhus Tox. 2x dil.,
5 drops every 2 hours.
E 79. VERTIGO.
In Locomotor Ataxia, patient loses the use of his legs; can't stand in the dark, the act of looking
sideways at anyone walking by his side will cause him to stagger and fall. Here Tr. Conium Mac. is
indicated, 3x dil., ten drops once in 3 hours.
E 80. BRAIN FOG.
Old men sometimes complain of heaviness in the occiput and inability to exert the mind to talk or
think. They feel played out. Give Picric Acid 6x, 3 grs. once in 3 hours.

CONSULTATION BY LETTER.
Every day I get letters from physicians asking me for advice in their difficult cases. It has been my
work for the past thirty years. By constant study for many years' I have fitted myself for this special
work. In all these years I have been doing this work as a "Labor of love" to help the Doctors cure their
patients. It takes so much of my time and study, that it seems only fair and just that I should be paid for
my advice.
So I will ask the Doctors who want advice hereafter to enclose five dollars in their letters as
consultation fee. I will go to any part of the country to meet physicians in consultation on difficult
cases. They will have the benefit of my knowledge of the Materia Medica of the five Schools of
Medicine, and my 43 years' experience in the practice of medicine.

To the Members of our Association.
We want every member of our Association to make a special effort to bring in some new members. If
each member will do his part, we will roll up a grand list of members for our next Convention.
If you know a good man fitted for our Association, get him to join us. Do it now.
Our Mission is to help our Doctors of all Schools of Medicine to be better Physicians, to do more for
the sick than they are doing.
It is God's work, and it is good work.
