Academic Language
Activity #1
The ELA teacher will share the lesson plan she has prepared with me in my google
classroom for educators. I will review it, ask questions and prepare to include library
literacy skills to enhance the students learning in the library and with online
resources. Next I will create a classroom for the 6 grade students and share the
code with them when we meet. They will then be given a short video tutorial and
then they will see that a short questionnaire (KWL) that I completed in forms to get
results immediately (similar to poll everywhere) which we will discuss as results
come in. Students will then be introduced to the school library website and then the
online card catalog. There will be a screen cast provided with the steps to locate
the books and narrow searches that students will practice alone one time through,
then work with a peer to accomplish a search for a specific book the librarian
assigns, (all of this occurs online only- the next activity is in the physical space).
Completing the questions in the google classroom correctly, they are then free to
begin the scavenger hunt for books and materials in the library with a peer.

Activity #2
Students will now work in pairs on google classroom and in the physical space of the
library to answer scavenger hunt questions and locate the items they are searching
for, and then take pictures of the items as they are locating in their search. They will
have to upload their findings at the end of the scavenger hunt to google classroom
via google drive.
Conclusion
Since our library is new to the 6th grade students, this digital classroom experience
will help them become familiar with academic and library literacy terms along with
the many uses of the library website and the physical space in our library. As we
gradually do more lessons with google classroom, the students will realize the
benefits of having all of their work in one area, never losing an assignment, never
needing paper or a pen, and easily submitting work without worry. By exploring the
library and the library website with the proper on google classroom, this will teach
the student to be: smart digital citizens, informed decision makers, skilled resource
evaluators, and life-long learners.
