There are many reasons of using plastics for our daily life. However, there are also some reasons that show
that
plastics are hazardous for our life.
Actually, plastics take an important part of our everyday life. As you read this book, perhaps you are sitting on a plastic
chair, leaning on a plastic-coated table or wearing plastic shoes.
We prefer using plastics to other materials for some reasons. Some of them are: they can be shaped into almost anything,
they are light and relatively cheap and they can be produced in different colour. Moreover, they are good insulators because heat
and electricity do not travel through plastics easily. Further, unlike metals and wood, plastics do not rust or rot.
On the other hand, plastics have some disadvantages too. Plastics are made of natural resources which are not renewable.
It means that they will eventually run out. Besides, they are also difficult to recycle. Many plastics do not rot or break down
naturally. If we dont recycle them, it means plastic rubbish will remain on our planet for a very long time. Of course, it will cause
pollution. In fact, recycling plastics is complicated. Different types of plastics need to be processed in different ways.
Moreover, plastics are not as strong as many metals. They also melt at high temperatures, sometimes giving off poisonous
fumes. Surely, the poisonous fumes are dangerous for living things.
