Some of the students must be sat the test for several times just only to pass the
admission requirements. In other hand, some of local company also requiring the employers
who sat for MUET as well. In that case, this reports will be exposing the main problems
faced by the students who sat repeatedly for MUET.
This report will be issued to UTHM students in Faculty of Civil and Environment
Engineering (FKAAS). Around 50 FKAASs students will be involved to answer this matter.

Hence, in UTHM for graduate requirement student have to require and make sure the
result of MUET must be band 3 above. Due to the requirements, there are many factors for
the students fail in MUET such as student lack of knowledge and exposure to the techniques
and strategies and less preparation to determine whether critical components or aspects of
what will be tested in the exam.
3.0 OBJECTIVES
1. To identify the factors that cause the student to not pass the MUET Examination.
2. To identify the reasons why students must sit repeatedly for MUET.
3. To recognize the best way to help students improve the MUET results.
4.0 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study will be undertaken to find out the factors that affecting students not passed
the MUET among UTHMs students and the way to overcome this problem. The finding of
this study will redound to the benefit of students, lecturers and the university itself
considering that English plays an important role in daily life especially when the lectures are
using English as the main language and even the books are in English. The greater demand
for graduates with excellent English background justifies the need for more effective in
communications while working after graduates.

MUET. Any improvement in English can pave the way of producing better students and the
percentage of student who not passed the MUET will decrease.

4.2

The Lecturers

This study will be very beneficial to the lectures, which can identify the factors that effecting
students not passed the MUET among UTHM students. Therefore, lecturer may find the
solution to overcome the problems by organize the activities and programs. Besides that,
lecturer may improve the method of learning process for MUET by doing the seminar and
class to those who are interested.
4.3

The University
The outcome of the study is beneficial to the university for enhance the learning

process and may change learning styles of the students. Therefore, the university may
implementing the raise curriculum of students.

5.0 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

In order to know the opinion of the students and the lecturers regarding the factor that
affecting students not passed the MUET, there are a few scopes that we want to counter. We
will made a decision to set a target that there will have 50 respondents that we want to
ask. These targeted respondents; both gender all from a faculties FKAAS in UTHM. So, to
gain and collect the data about the selected respondents, there were a few medium that we
had used like social network and the internet. We will create the online form of
questionnaires using Google Document to make the respondents easy to access to our
form. We think this is the best way to approach our data instead of distributing them face to
face to respondents. We also will divide a person in charge in each selected area around the
faculties to make our work easier to distribute the questionnaire.

6.0 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

a) Respondents
Specific respondents will be answered the questionnaires which consist only FKAAS
students. Around 50 FKAAS students will be involved in this study. All respondent
has sat for MUET test and have their own results.
b) Data Collections
The study will use only one method which is surveying questionnaire. This set of
questionnaire consists four sections.

First section will be asked for students

background. Second section will be provided set of questions of according to MUET

itself. In addition, the third section might give answers for objectives 1 and 3, and
lastly the fourth section is the opinion sections.

Figure 16: Opinion from students of how students can get better grades in MUET examination

It can be concluded from the findings that, most of FKAAS students are
agree that the most difficult test in MUET examination is writing test. As to why
students still not pass the MUET Exam is because they lack of exposure of using
English in daily life and they think the paper is too difficult and they did not
prepare for the exam. A lot of method are used in order to improve their
language skills but most of them choose watching movie as the best
method.Lastly, we can see the opinion from respondents that mostly says to
practice speaks English in daily life and always set in mind that English is one of
the easy language. Last but not least, all objectives are answered according to
the questionnaire distributed. The cause and how to improve the MUET issue has
been revealed by the respondents who sit for MUET themselves. Hopefully,
students can recognized their ability to sit for MUET.
