Objectives:
1) To give a very in depth approach to the applied functional anatomy, applied physiology, clinical
application and a variety of approaches to treat this region.(see below)
2) Hands on OMM workshop time as well as handouts will be offered.
3) Billing and coding for OMT will be discussed at Lunceon.
4) This course is for every DO who wants to improve the application of OMT into practice in the
clinics or hospitals.

Introduction: 8:00 AM-8:05 AM -William H. Devine, DO, Clinical Professor, MWU,

8:05-10:00 AM -Christian Fossum, DO Applied Functional Anatomy, Applied
Physiology of Region- Including Lymphatics and Neurology as Applications
- We explore the functional and applied anatomy of this region, including the fascial system, the neural,

vascular and lymphatic elements. The functional organization of the fascial system from the base of the skull
to the diaphragm will be visualized and discussed, and the relationship between the autonomic nervous
system and musculoskeletal function will be covered.

10:00-10:15- Break
10:15-Noon- Fossum and Devine- Hands on Workshop Using a Variety of Techniques to
treat the Region.
Noon Luncheon With Dr. Devine and Faculty of AZCOM. Osteopathic billing and
Coding. Luncheon Includes brief AzAO business meeting.
1:00- 2:00 PM Fossum and Devine Lecture: upper cervical spine and cranial base will be explored
looking at the relationship between the cranial nerves and the upper cervical spinal nerves, the
craniocervical dura with its innervation and connectivity to the suboccipital muscle complex and the anatomy
and possible clinical implications of the vertebral venous plexus.

2:00-2:15 PM Break with faculty

2:00-4:00 PM OMM Workshop and Lab- Fossum and Devine- As we progress through these
regions, a variety of treatment approaches (based on the various pathophysiologic models) and techniques
will be demonstrated to target the structures discussed, and clinically it will be integrated into the
management of musculoskeletal conditions (neck pain, upper extremity pain including thoracic outlet
syndrome, TMJ problems and primary headaches) and systemic conditions (EENT problems, respiratory

dysfunctions and cardiovascular dysfunctions).

4:00-5:00 PM Fossum and Devine- Review of OMT techniques presented, material, sharing of handouts
and papers with registrants.
Program Ends at 5:00 PM -Note- For the entire course: As teaching aid we will use Power Points specially
developed to explore and visualize the anatomy and clinical implications of it, and it will be made available
for the faculty for use for COM faculty and OPTI Program Directors. Other educational materials will be
