OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT
FOR THE LOYOLA SCHOOLS
10 October 2016
Memo to: ‘The Loygfa Schools Community
From: Mayfa Vaz C. Vilehes, Ph.D.
Vige President for the Loyola Schools
Subject: Atenista Ka! Application (AkApp)
In cooperation with the Ateneo Java Wireless Competency Center (AJWCC) of the School of
Science and Engineering, 1 am pleased to introduce the Atenista Ka! Application (AkApp) as part
of the Loyola Schools’ effort in disaster risk reduction,
AkApp is a two-way broadcast and query communication system using SMS and e-mail
communication channels. This allows the Administration to broadcast announcements and queries
about the status and safety of the members of the Ateneo community. In return, members of the
Ateneo community may respond individually and immediately to the broadcast query via the same
channels of SMS and e-mail. The responses are processed immediately to produce actionable
information for decision-making.
AkApp is currently at the testing stage of development. The developers of the system will conduct
a series of tests to discover system limitations, uncover errors, and analyze user engagement.
In this light, I encourage the active participation of the Loyola Schools community in responding
to the test messages that will be sent to you through the AkApp application via the SMS and e-mail
channels. This will be a series of tests that will be conducted from October until December 2016.
Please expect to receive several messages within the said period.
I look forward to your valuable participation in this endeavor.
Thank you very much,
