PERSONAL STATEMENT
This book is about one of my design as an architecture student
of Riau University. It is a design of Riau University Library that
I took from my 4th semester task. I decided to choose this
design because this is one of my masterpiece that is worth to
publish.
It is my rst time making book and writing using english. So, I
apologize if there any misspelled words.

INTRODUCING
Students as learners have the potential and importance in realizing the ideals of
national development. College as one of the formal educational institutions entrusted
with duties and responsibilities to achieve national education goals. Library is a
medium for the transfer of knowledge. The library does not create knowledge. But the
library also has a role in triggering the development of knowledge. With the library,
knowledge of library users will increase. This will support the development of
knowledge. Libraries should be able to trigger the development of knowledge in
universities. The main users library are students and lecturers. Quality library will
support towards the development of research and knowledge.
In college, the library is an important part. In other words, the library is a sub-system of
the college system. Users of the library are lecturers and students. The level of library
services depends on how often users utilize library facilities. Library system design
should pay attention to the utility of the library, meaning a library in a college that is
increasingly becoming a referral of its having meaning a high level of utility. For that
libraries should be designed to meet the needs of users.
A library that in accordance with the wishes of users is one of the means to make users
feel comfortable in it. Libraries must be able to provide satisfactory service for visitors,
such as the procedure that is not complicated to manufacture membership card and
borrowing, fast service, friendliness of the librarian and the existing facilities in the
library. Library system has to be designed that is able to provide more value for
visitors. More value in the form of level of understanding of a eld of science that is

growing. For that in the college library, the contents of the books in the library must be
in accordance with the needs of its users.
To achieve that, the design of riau university central library taken as the discussion in
this book. The explanation of the design can be seen after this.

IN THE ROOM
Library reading room is generally located in the same room with room of books
collection. The reading room is usually located in the center of the room and
surrounded by bookshelves. In the library that i am going to design, I am going to
multiply the number of the reading room into sections according to the category of the
books collection.

ON FORM
On the form, the mass of the building starts from a box shape that multiplied into four
pieces that represent every oor of the library and arranged vertically.
Then added another two same shape, placed crosses on the second oor and the third
oor.

ON THE STRUCTURE
According to the theme of tectonics, which is the use of the structure as an aesthetic
element. At this building structures, especially the columns, will be distinguished from
the columns of the building in general. The column will be exposed, reduced in size, and
then multiplied in number.

The exposed structure in addition to aesthetics, it also serves as a sun shading from
the east and west.
The main mass of the building placed lengthwise from east to west to minimize solar
heat that enters the building, as well as ease the circulation of winds from north to
south.
