industry in Pakistan
Political Factors:
Analysis:
Due to increasing tension among India and Pakistan over Kashmir conflict the stock market is
getting unstable. The issue has a negative impact on stock market. Such incidents create
uncertainty in markets which leads to decrease in confidence of investors.
Due to lack of confidence the investors start selling their shares which results in increased supply
of shares in the market and ultimately the share prices fall. So this incident may also affect the
stock prices of pharmaceutical industry in Pakistan in the same manner.
Economic Factors:
Analysis:
Decrease in inflation will result in the decrease in input prices of all raw materials which will
decrease the production cost of medicines. Ultimately the prices of medicines will fall. Moreover
it will also result in increased profits of companies due to the increase in sales. Decrease in
inflation is also a good development opportunity for the small local drugs manufacturing firms.
Social factors:
Analysis:
It has the both positive and negative effect on the pharmaceutical industries. Positive effect is
that due to cancelation of licenses of such pharma firms the companies will be more conscious
about the good manufacturing practices, which will improve the production system and quality
of products. Due to good quality the customers will be more satisfied and it will result in
profitability of the companies.
However, the negative effect is that meeting the standard procedures may be difficult and costly.
Technological Factors:
Analysis:
We are way behind. This means that there are untapped opportunities. It is
essential that we should have a strong belief that the innovative pharmaceutical
industry is a vital sector for the health of the nation and that its survival is
mandated by policies and collaborations that enable it to make innovative
treatments widely available to those who need them.
In addition, innovation will result in improved quality, more efficiency and
ultimately in high profitability.
Legal Factors:
Analysis:
This is a very bad situation for the pharmaceutical industry in Pakistan.
Pakistans pharmaceutical sector, which was called the countrys sunrise industry
seven year back, is becoming a basket case now for its failure to meet local demand
and increase exports under the stifling regulations.
For example, almost a dozen of Pakistani and multinational companies have
permission to produce and market thyroxin, a lifesaving drug used by patients with
malfunctioning thyroid gland. However, none of them produce it because the price
fixed by regulators is very low. Only one multinational produces it in limited quantity
as a part of its corporate social responsibility. Part of this quantity reaches patients and
a major part is smuggled at very high rates. The inhalers so badly needed by asthma
patients are rarely available.
Environmental Factors:
Anti-dengue department has floated an anti-dengue program during
Eid holidays in Rawalpindi city. For this campaign, a considerable
amount of equipment and phones has been provided to the staff
meant to curb dengue virus.
Dailytimes-08-Jul-16
Analysis:
As of now, there is no licensed vaccine or antiviral drug to beat the threats of dengue in the
affected regions. Various research institutes and pharmaceutical companies should be sponsored
and patronized for swift invention of effective remedies in the form of medicines. The
elimination of dengue virus demands both short and long term plans.
This is also very important for the growth of our pharmaceutical industries.
