Title:

Gravity Area Loading and intersecting inclined and horizontal panels

Date:

Introduction
Where we have several horizontal and Inclined planes
sharing a member, (eg M1) the gravity area loading panel
selection can get confused.
In the diagrams opposite the panel defined by
M1, M2, M3 & M4 will get confused by the
members in the sloping panel M1, M8, M9 &
M22.
In defining the Eaves floor spanning front to
back you will obtain a weird area loading
diagram like this below in fig 2.

Fig 1

Solution
The solution is in done in three stages.

Fig 2

1) Define the Roof members that

interfere with but dont lie in the eaves
plane as Bracing members. (eg M8,
M9, M10 & M11). Members M1 and
M7 must not be bracing members.
Member M22 does not matter.

2) Define your gravity area loading by

selecting your Eaves level members M1,
M3 & M7 etc. (see fig 3)
3) Using Wind panels define your roof
panel M1, M8, M9 & M22 etc. In the
loading part input your Dead and live
loads. (see fig 4)
