Suggestions on How to Prepare the Portfolio

for the DComm Program

The Portfolio is a very important document that an applicant to the DComm Program must submit to
the DComm Program Admissions Committee. It contains profile and description of all published
works that are specifically relevant to the evaluation of application for admission to the Program.
There are many ways of preparing the personal portfolio, but to facilitate matters in connection with
the evaluation of applicants to the DComm Program of UPOU, we would like to suggest a simple
way of preparing the portfolio to be submitted to the DComm Admissions Committee.
1. The basic document upon which the Portfolio is based is the Curriculum Vitae (CV). In
general, the CV should contain the following (these are main headings):
Name
Positions
Date of Birth
Nationality
Civil Status
Home Address (as complete as possible)
Office Address (complete)
Education (begin with the highest academic degree), Institution, Year Awarded
Fields of Specialization and Interests (list)
Language Proficiency (proficiency in speaking, reading, writing)
Countries visited in last ten years for professional purposes
Employment History (to include exclusive dates, position, and general functions; start with
the most recent)
Publications (all must be properly listed in bibliographic format; start with latest; separate
listings for journal articles, book chapters, etc.)
Papers presented in conferences (bibliographic citation format)
Other information (consultancy projects undertaken, media productions titles and
descriptions; indicate your actual role)
Research projects undertaken (indicate role; cite terminal report in bibliographic format)
Awards Received (list beginning with most recent)
Membership in Professional and Academic Organizations
2. Succeeding pages of your portfolio shall contain evidentiary documents. Each major
section of your CV, i.e., Educational Attainment, should be identified (perhaps with a page
separator with a different color, to indicate that the pages following such sheet are the
documentary evidences in support of your degree. In the same vein, after the page
separator for Publications you might want to include another page separator to indicate
that what follows are copies of your journal articles, etc. Evidentiary documents for
publications would include, Xerox copies of the journal cover, table of contents indicating
relative position of your article, and the copy of the entire article. Same may be done for
book chapters. Copies of papers presented in conference should also be included in the
compilation. Xerox copies of award citations should also be included in your portfolio. In
other words, be as complete as possible.

3. It is strongly suggested that you submit to the DComm Admissions Committee five CDs
containing your portfolio so that we will be assured that each member of the Admissions
Committee gets the correct copy for his/her evaluation. As much as possible, your portfolio
should be in pdf file.
4. Please note that the evaluation and decisions of the DComm Admissions Committee shall
be largely dependent on your portfolio because of the value of the physical evidence that
you shall provide. It goes without saying that whatever you include in your portfolio is
deemed true and correct. Your portfolio, therefore, must be complete and should contain
detailed evidences.
