Ministry of Education (MOE ) in collaboration with the Sports Councils IPT ( Masum , MSP ,
MASKOM and MASISWA ) took the initiative to organize SUKIPT ( Sukan Institusi Pengajian
Tinggi ) which began in 2012 that was held at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam,
Selangor. The organization of this tournament is held biennially and interspersed with
Karnival Sukan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia (SIPMA). The organization of SUKIPT is an
effort by the Ministry to develop and promote sports at the university, national and
international level. Participation for SUKIPT is open to all athletes from IPT in Malaysia.
The first SUKIPT involved 5,000 athletes and 1,125 officers from 101 contingent which
includes 20 public IPT, 46 private IPT, 25 politeknik and 10 community college. 15 types of
sports were competed with a total of 165 gold, 165 silver and 208 bronze awarded on the
11th November 2012. The overall winner of the 2012 SUKIPT belong to the UPM contingent
with a total of 52 gold medals, 26 silver and 21 bronze medals.
For the second SUKIPT, 24 sport events were competed which involved 12,000 participants
which includes the athletes, sport officers and volunteers from 110 contingent. It was held
at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Selangor. The overall winner of the 2014
SUKIPT belongs to UiTM contingent with a total of 64 gold medals, 44 silver and 34 bronze
medals.
For the organization of the third edition of SUKIPT, the invitation of the contingent for the
competition is extended to international invitation which involved ASEAN countries. The
countries involved are Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Laos, Myanmar and Brunei, with 8
total contingent overall. Sporting events for athletes with disabilities (OKU) will also be
held this time, 2 sport events will take place for OKU category which are petanque and
athletics.
The third edition of SUKIPT is held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) which starts on
the 25th January until 5th February 2016. 25 sport events were competed with a total of
251 gold medals which involves almost 8,000 athletes from 102 contingent and 1,200
volunteers.
