OVERVIEW
Good news: we have found a range of different flight options to meet your criteria.
The main difficulty with this request was finding award flights around the popular school
holiday travel period. But your flexibility in terms of dates and destinations within Europe
has helped a great deal.
The outbound flights we have suggested are around the latest dates with award availability
on the routes we searched. Similarly, the return flights were around the earliest we could
find to meet your criteria.
We have come up with 3 different options for the outbound leg and 2 for the return leg.
Simply combine two of these options into a return award booking. With Qantas, awards are
priced as one-way so you'll just need to add the cost of the outbound and return awards to
get the total price.
For flights from Melbourne to almost anywhere in Europe, the price is 60,000 Qantas points
for travel on Qantas and/or Emirates. You may also use other Qantas partner airlines, such
as Cathay Pacific, but the points required is a little higher at 75,000 points. The advantage
of using Cathay Pacific, even if more points are required, is that the additional taxes are
lower.
You have enough Qantas points to combine any two options, unless you use Cathay Pacific
for both the outbound and return legs in which case you'd be around 5,000 points short.
(As an aside, one way to get around this would be to add a flight on another oneworld
airline to the booking in order to make it a oneworld award. But don't worry about this that won't be necessary if you simply book Qantas/Emirates in at least one direction.)
For what it's worth, it would only cost 55,000 Qantas points to fly from Melbourne to
Athens via Dubai. So, if you were interested in visiting Athens you could save a total of
15,000 Qantas points by flying Emirates to Athens (instead of Paris) on the way to Europe.
Departing Europe from within the UK (e.g. London) will add around $500 in taxes (for 3
passengers) to the cost of your tickets due to the UK departure tax. We recommend
departing Europe from outside the UK to avoid paying this tax. You do not need to pay this
tax if you're arriving in the UK (only departing).

OUR RECOMMENDATION
We recommend booking Option 1 for both the outbound and return journey.
This will bring the total cost to 405,000 Qantas points + $1,343.66 taxes for 3 passengers.
Although Option 1 costs 15,000 points more per passenger than Option 2 for the return leg,
the travel time is much shorter and the taxes are also considerably lower. But ultimately it's
up to you.
HOW TO BOOK
These award flights can be booked directly on the Qantas website using the multi-city
booking tool. Ensure that you select the "Search Classic Flight Rewards" box at the bottom
of this page.
You may need to search for each individual flight using separate entries when using the
multi-city booking tool. For example, you may need to search for flights from VeniceAdelaide & Adelaide-Melbourne, or Zurich-Hong Kong & Hong Kong-Melbourne,
separately. Provided you search for the exact flights in this report, the price and availability
should be the same as we have found.
If you have any trouble with the booking, you can call Qantas on 13 13 13 to complete it.
There is a phone booking fee of $60 per passenger, although this is waived if you're unable
to complete the booking on the Qantas website.
