Reasons for selection of a specific country:

Stabilized Government and reform policies established by Mr.Abdel


(President of Egypt) after the political unrest in 2011.
Control established over Suez Canal which is the connecting link between
Europe, Africa and Asian countries.
Member of 6 significant trade agreements involving prominent countries from
Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Economy of the country is driven by diverse sectors like Information and
communication Technology, Infrastructure, Energy, Mining, Tourism,
Agriculture and Manufacturing.
Availability of Low cost and skilled Labour Force.
Ease of doing business, stable GDP (Avg 4%) and growing FDI (i.e. 73%).
Large Consumer base due to growing population.
Availability of free trade zones, natural resources, abundant unutilized land
and strategically located ports.

Preparation made: Major sectors contributing to the countrys economy were


identified. Countrys performance indices were defined and thorough analysis
was carried out. Individual Sectors development in the past few years and
identifying the major implemented/undergoing projects. PESTEL analysis was
done for the country to understand various merits and demerits. Various legal
reforms implemented in 2015 after the new govt. was setup in Egypt were
analysed. Laws related Labour, land disposal, trade, new business
development, grievances, disputes and agreements were studied. Analysed
all the factors on why Egypt is favourable for FDIs and FIIs. Research about
the preferred investors, their current organisation and sectors of interest as a
strategy to bring in more investments.

Planning/strategy for the pitch: Research about the investors, their current
organisation and sectors of interest as a strategy to bring in more
investments. Focus on Merits of individual sectors and showcasing untapped
avenues for future profitable investments. Key points were highlighted and
attempts were made to answer all the queries to the point. Stressed on the
strategic importance of Egypt and how it is the business hub connecting east
and the west world. Current establishments and investments made by reputed
firms were brought to the investor attention. Focused more on laws and
reforms related to ease of doing business.

Learning: In depth knowledge of a countries economy and how sector play a


role in GDP. How to market a country based on its competitive advantages
like trade blocs, conducive business Laws and demography. Major facts
which investor focuses and how we can pitch accordingly.

Things that worked:


Strategic planning during investor selection (> 50% Investment by
preferred investors) flow of pitch and thus the stall arrangements to
support the pitch.
Significant data gathered in each sector highlighting the huge potential for
investing in the country.
Display of Egypts map with details about the current investments and
untapped resources (Attachment).
Understanding currency fluctuation and utilizing this to our advantage.
Team work and coordination in preparation as well as the summit.
Emphasis on Energy, Mining and Information technology.

Things that did not work:

Secondary research could have been extensive.


Poor management of investors in the 1st round.
Pitch could have been more precise.
Delayed interaction with the senior advisor.
One of the investors could not be invited to the stall.

Suggestions if any: Proper understanding of currency fluctuations by batch


briefing and certificates to top 3 teams(close competition).
