Introduction
All the relevant load case combinations which include wind loading can be automatically
generated with the click of a few buttons.
Method
These facilities are found in the Wind Directions tab which can be accessed by clicking on the
button at the top right of the screen in the Wind Area Loading part of the program or by
going to 3D-Model > Wind Loading > Wind Directions and Cpi Values on the top menu.
All ultimate and service load cases are developed in combination with the dead and live loads,
and taking into account any pressure or suction coefficients added to the wind data.
The internal pressure and suction load combinations are designated as P and S loadcases
and are a combination of the Cpe and Cpi coefficients for internal pressure and Cpe and Csi
coefficients for internal suction. W, P and S loadcases are generated for the default wind
diagonal length (typically 5m). These cases should govern design of the individual elements of
the structure.
Additional Load Groups - automatic generation of wind loading cases when using loading
groups in addition to D1 and L1, eg; groups D2, D3, L2, L3, A1, G1, etc.
Occasionally a user may wish to include additional loading groups to separate out dead or live
loads which arise from different sources. These can be included in the automatic generation of
the wind loading combinations by carrying out the following steps:1. Click on the first 3 buttons D+W, 1.4(D+W) and D+L+W. This will initially generate 3
basic wind (W1) loading combinations.
2. Go onto the Loading Combinations tab and manually add in the factors for the additional
loading groups (eg; D2, L2, A1, G1, etc) for each of the 3 new wind loadcases generated.
3. Go back to the Wind Directions/Cpi tab and click on the 4th button to create the service
cases for these 3 ultimate cases.
4. Click on the 5th button to automatically generate all the wind loading combinations. These
combinations will now include the additional load groups which were added to the 3 basic
ultimate wind combinations typical example shown below.
