Error and Recommendation

From the experiments conducted, there are several error that might lead to
inaccuracy of the data obtained. Therefore, several improvements are
suggested to ensure that experiments produce a more accurate data.

Error
: Parallax error when reading the level of measuring
cylinder.
Recommendation :
Ensure that the eye level is parallel to the
reading of the measuring
cylinder to obtain accurate amount
of reactants.

Error
: Sweating and moist apparatus that may cause the
reactants to mix
with the water.
Recommendation :
Ensure to wear gloves and dry the apparatus
appropriately
when placing the reactants.

Error
: Some of the crystals remain in the vacuum filtration
equipment.
Recommendation :
Ensure to wash the crystals with washing
solution at least three
time to avoid it from sticking
to the wall of the vacuum filtration
equipment.

Error
: The mixture is not covered properly causing heat loss
to the
surrounding.
Recommendation :
Ensure to cover the whole body of the beaker
with aluminium foil to
prevent heat loss to surrounding.

Conclusion
In conclusion, Gavimetric Analysis is carried out to determine the amount
of chloride in the sample. It is a technique in which the amount of analyte can be
determined through the measurement of mass of two compounds containing it.
In this experiment, the silver nitrate is reacted with sodium chloride to
form a white precipitate of silver chloride. The mixture is heated up until 70oC
and are maintained at the temperature to speed up the reaction. The mixture is
then filtrated through the vacuum filtration equipment to obtain the silver
chloride precipitate. The precipitate is left to dry in the oven and the mass are
weighed to proceed with the gavimetric analysis.
During precipitation, the silver nitrate completely reacted with sodium
chloride to produce silver chloride. When sodium chloride dissolves into the
solution, it dissociates into ions to become aqueous solution. This causes the
presence of spectator ions that does not participate in the reaction. Based on the
chemical equations, only the silver ion and the chloride ion react together to
produce sliver chloride solid. This allows students to collect pure crystal of silver
chloride.
According to the experimental result, the standard deviation and relative
standard deviation value are calculated. A very small value of standard deviation
and relative standard deviation that is obtained indicates that the values from
each trial are close to each other. Therefore our experimental results from every
trials are consistent.
