16. If a function or outing (extra-mural or otherwise) is held away from school premises and official school transport has
been arranged, no pupil may, without permission of the Principal or Deputy Principal or school authority, be driven or
obtain a lift in any vehicle which has not been officially approved to carry pupils representing the school at such
function or outing.
17. No circular, notice, pamphlet, banner, poster or other object shall be distributed on the school premises or placed on
any of the schools notice boards or on any other place, on or within or in proximity to the schools premises, without
the permission of the Principal or Deputy Principal or such persons to whom authority has been delegated.
18. No pupil shall sell or attempt to sell any items or tickets for any competition, request sponsorship or donations, with,
on or in proximity to the school, for personal gain or for the gain of any organisation, with the exception of gain for
Pinehurst Primary School.
19. The school shall not be held responsible for the loss or damage to any pupils valuable possessions. Such valuables
(e.g. jewellery, CD players, cellular telephones, watches etc.) are the responsibility of the pupil.
20. Cellular telephones may be brought to school, but the following rules shall apply:
20.1 Cell phones must be switched off during the school day.
20.2 Any cell phone that rings or is played with, during the school day, will be confiscated. This phone will be
returned after a period of time. The length of time will be at the Principals discretion.
20.3 The school shall not accept responsibility for the pupils cell phones, nor will lost or missing cell phones be
investigated.
21. Notwithstanding the fact that a certain act or omission may not be a direct contravention of these rules, any act or
omission, which in the opinion of the Principal or Deputy Principal or Governing Body constitutes behaviour
unbecoming a pupil of Pinehurst Primary School, shall be deemed a contravention of Rule 1 above.
22. In these rules, unless the context indicates the contrary, words importing the singular shall include the plural and visa
versa.
23. In these rules, unless the context indicates the contrary, words relating to gender shall also mean the opposite gender.
24. Contravention of School Rules:
24.1 Pupils who contravene the School Rules may be punished by:
24.2 Having certain privileges withdrawn.
24.3 Being given school community service tasks or other suitable tasks to perform.
24.4 Having to attend detention classes.
24.5 Being made to compensate for property negligently or wilfully damaged, defaced, soiled or taken without
permission.
24.6 Being suspended, if in the opinion of the Principal or Governing Body, the language and / or conduct of
such pupil is of such a nature as to endanger the maintenance of a proper standard of moral conduct, discipline or
social well-being at the school.
24.7 Expulsion. The Governing Body shall decide whether or not to recommend to the Head of the Western
Cape Education Department that a pupil be expelled.
