We are happy to continue blogging this week about the Seowan Intech SWC-5100 indoor
CPE device. This week, we focused more on the "geeky" stuff, we hope our findings will be
both useful and helpful to you!

-Intelligent WIMAX CPE designed for residential and small-medium business customers
-Compliant IEEE 802.16e and Wave 1 cor2/D3, Wave2
-Provide VOIP interface for Telephone Service
-Up to 30 Mbps Downlink and 6Mbps uplink

TEST PLATFORM:

All the tests have been conducted on the Ball State WIMAX network and were
completed on the same day. The following are the results of the beam forming
tests conducted using the CISCO’s diagnostic tool. The tests were conducted
sequentially at three different buildings, connected to the same base station
operating at 10 MHz frequency. The three varying Carrier to Noise interference

ratio’s (CINR) observed at individual locations are -41dB, -65dB and -83dB. This is
a part of series of tests that will be conducted to gauge the overall performance
of the SEOWAN equipment.

Note: Acronyms DL stands for Download, PER for Packet Error Rate, CINR for Carrier
Interference Noise Ratio, RSSI for Received signal strength indicator

TEST RESULTS:

The download and upload results and their corresponding graphs are shown on the right.

ANALYSIS OF THE GRAPH:

Download: The average download speed was observed to be around 4 Mbps with almost no
packet error rate

Upload: The average upload speed was observed to be around 1.5 Mbps with a very
minimum or unacceptable packet error rate

The results of test are not as convincing as expected. The equipment was slated
to perform with fair amount of consistency at varying CINR values despite the
natural trend that data speed decreases with increasing CINR. Some of the
readings were unexpected, especially the sharp decrease in both download and
upload average speeds, observed in the graphs in the certain CINR ranges. A
possible reason might be that some CPE’s have trouble in coping with extra
burden subjected by this powerful diagnostic tool. Also, several other factors like
bandwidth sharing could have weighed in too. Given the above concerns, it is
hard to make a conclusion at this point.

Thank you for stopping by this week, we hope that we have given you some useful
information! And as always, please add comments if you have them!
