 What is FSSAI?
FSSAI is a license mandated by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India before starting any
food business in accordance with the procedure laid down in Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006.
All the manufacturers, traders, restaurants who are involved in food business must obtain a 14-digit
registration or a license number which must be printed on food packages.
This step is taken by government so as to ensure that food products undergo certain quality checks
thereby reducing the instances of adulteration, substandard products and improve accountability of
manufacturers.

Applicability
This is applicable to all food units involved into Manufacturing, Processing, Trading, Packing,
Distribution, Export, Import, Transportation, Warehousing, Storage, Sales, Re-packing, Re-labelling,
Wholesale, Retail, Hotel, Canteen, Dhaba, Restaurant, Club and Resorts or any sort of food business
in India commonly termed as Food Business operators.

Turnover below 12 lakhs annually- FSSAI

registration.
Turnover between 12-20 crores annually- FSSAI
state license.
Turnover above 20 crores- FSSAI central license.

Features & guidelines of FSSAI License Number

The 14-digit number

provides information
about the
manufacturers
license or registration
details, and the
manufacturing state.

The Brand owner

shall display the
FSSAI logo and his
license number on
the label of the food
package.

In case of imported
food products, the
importer shall display
FSSAI logo and
license number along
with the name and
address of importer
on a sticker to be
affixed before
customs clearance.

Authority letter with name and address of responsible
person
Property papers copy (If owned property)
Rent agreement copy (If rented property)
Food Safety Management System plan or certificate
Form IX: Nomination of Persons by a Company along with
the Board Resolution
Declaration form
Electricity/ water bill/Telephone bill / Mobile bill of
business place
Copy of Partnership Deed (In case of Partnership)
MOA/AOA (In case of company)

Blueprint/layout plan of the processing unit
Name and List of Equipments and Machinery along
with the number, installed capacity and horse power
used
List of food category desired to be manufactured
Pesticide residues report of water
Upload Production unit photograph

Step 2 : Application filing

Applicant should fill

your relevant
details. After filling
in complete
information
applicant should
click "submit"
button to submit the
application.

Step 3 : Sending acknowledgement with relevant documents.

The applicant can be required

to sign at relevant place/places
on the print of the application,
and submit it to the concerned
Food Safety and Standard
Authority of India along with
relevant documents.

Step 4 : Certificate

Food Safety and Standard

Authority of India will generate
Certificate Number.
Certificates shall be printed
and issued to the applicant on
the appointed day & courier it
to the applicant address.
