PREFACE
First at all, give thanks for Gods love and grace for us. Thanks to God for helping me
and give me chance to finish this assighment timely. And I would like to say thank you to Mr.
Abdul Hakim Butar-butar as the lecturer that always teach us and give much knowledge
about how to practice English well.
This assighment that title is Electric Pamp and Water Level Control not perfect. So,
critis and suggestion is needed here to make better. Hopefully, we as a student in Education of
Electrical Engineering can work more professional by using English. Thank you.

ELECTRIC PUMP
DEFINITION OF ELECTRIC PUMP
A machine that draws a fluid into itself trough an entrance port and forces the fluid out
through an exhaust port (see illustration). Used to displace a fluid (usually a liquid) under
suction or discharge pressure by imparting external potential or kinetic energy to it.
The meain parameter of a pump is the quantity of liquid displaced per unit time- that is, the
actual volumetric capacity Q. The following technical parameters are also very important for
most pumps. The pressure produced p or the corresponding head H, the input power N, and
the efficiency .

TYPES
Mechanical pumps may be submerged in the fluid they are pumping or be placed external to
the fluid. There are two basic types of pumps : positive displacement and centrifugal.
Although axial- flow pumps are frequently classified as a separate type, they have essentially
the same operating principles as centrifugal pumps.
Pumps are commonly rated by horsepower, flow rate, outlet pressure in meters (or feet) of
head, inlet suction feet (in metres) of head. The head can be simplified as the number of feet
or metres the pump can raise or lower a column of water at atmospheric prssure.
From an initial design point of view, engineers often use a quantity termed of the specific
speed to identify the most suitable pump type for a particular combination of flow rate and
head.

PUMPING POWER
The power imparted into a fluid incrases the energy of the fluid per unit volume. Thus the
power relationship is between the conversion of the mechanical and the fluid elements within
the pump. In general, this is governed by a series of simultaneous differential equations,

known as the Navier-Stokes equation. However a more simple equation relating only the
different energies in the fluid, known as bernoullis equation can be used. Hence the power P,
required by the pump :
P=

pQ

Where

is the change in total pressure between the inlet and outlet (in Pa), and Q, the

volume flow-rate of the fluid is given in

m3 /s . The total pressure may have gravitational,

static pressure and kinetic energy components; i.e. energy is distributed between change in
the fluids gravitational potential energy (going up or down hill), change in velority, or
change in static pressure.

is the pump efficiency, and may be given by the

manufactures information.

APPLICATIONS
Mechanical pumps serve in a wide range of applucation such a pumping water from wells,
aqurium filtering and aeration.
-

In the car industry for water-cooling and fuel injection

In the energy industry for pumping oil and natural gas or for operating cooling towers.
In the medical industry for biochemical processes in developing and manufacturing
medice, and as artificial replacements for body parts.

WATER LEVEL CONTROL

DEFINITION OF WATER LEVEL CONTROL

A control on a boiler used to maintain the water at a safe level. The first fungtion is to control
the performance of pumps. To control the water level in the holding tank can use
three electrodes in which each of the electrodes determine the common power,
low level and high level of water levels.

TYPES
- Float

- Din

- SS-2

-Sensor

FEATURES OF AUTOMATIC WATER LEVEL CONTROLLER

Automatic water level controller will automatically start the pump set as the water level
falls below predetermined level and shall switc off the pump set as soon as tank is full or
water level in the lower tank is at below the minimum level.water level controller provides
the flexibility to dicede about water levels for operations of pump sets in upper/lower tanks.
