Textbook: Electrical Engineering Principles and Applications, 6th edition, by Allan
R. Hambley, Pearson/ Prentice Hall
Instructor: Dr. Farid Mesghali
Email: mesghali@seas.ucla.edu
Office Hours: T-TH 9:45 AM to 11:15 AM, room 66-124A, Engr IV.

Department Office Phone: 310-206-4304
Teaching Assistants: Zahra Mahmoodzadeh (zr.mahmoodzadeh@gmail.com) and
Ebrahim Nemati (ebrahim@g.ucla.edu)
Course Coverage: The first six chapters of the textbook covering the basic electrical
and electronic circuit analysis and applications, the core of this class and portion of
operational amplifiers in chapter 14.
Work Expectations: The rule of thumb for courses at UCLA is that for each unit of
credit received, a student is to dedicate 3 hours outside of class to that course each
week. This course carries 4 units of credit and so you are expected to dedicate about
12 hours outside of classroom each week for this course.
Homework turn in policy:
There are seven homework sets. The students are supposed to study the principles and
applications first, and then think about and work out homework problems independently.
Homework will be due on Thursday morning before the lecture. There should be no
homework turn in during the lecture. Late homework turn-in after the lecture is
acceptable if the TA collecting the homework is still available. Late homework turn in will
only be accepted with 20% penalty if it is put in the TA mailbox of Zahra
Mahmoodzadeh before 5:00 PM the same day. The TA mailbox is located at Engr. IV,
room 67-112. The homework solution will be posted after 5 PM the same day. Put the
sections in order, box your answers and STAPLE all the pages. TA is not responsible
for homework missing pages.
Midterms: There will be two full period (75 minutes) examinations. Each of these
exams will count 25% of your grade.
Make-up Exams: No make ups. For extreme circumstances that are agreed with by the
instructor before the scheduled time of the test, the weight of that exam will be shifted to
the final exam upon the instructors approval/verification. If you are unable to see the
instructor before the test, you must at least call the department office phone and leave a
message or send an e-mail. In a case of missing two midterms, student will NOT be
allowed any special accommodations and grade will likely be an "F".
If you have special circumstance that you think may warrant a drop of the course
