VALLEY SOCIAL CLUB

NEWSLETTER FOR NOVEMBER 2016

www.BHcare.org.

Vol/64 issue 21

FROM THE CLUB PRESIDENT

Hello fellow club members. As I sit here looking out the window I see
that all the leaves have changed, so the holidays must be coming. I cant
believe how the months fly by. The Big E this year was lots of fun. My
group strolled through the grounds and took our time looking at
everything. The weather was great and I have to say it was the best trip
to the Big E Ive had. Mikes already busy buying food for our
Thanksgiving Dinner which will be coming soon. Keep your
eye on the calendar for everything going on at the club. Tis
the season when we are the busiest.

FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT

Greetings from the V.P. Id like to share something with you all. Ill
be 53 and cancer free six years this month. Im submitting a
composition about life. (page 5) This piece struck me as an inspiring
way to look at life. I am choosing to extend these
thoughts to you. My only thought for the month is
deep gratitude for all Gods blessings for me.
Happy Thanksgiving.

FROM THE SECRETARY

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful
fall. I never got a chance to say how much I enjoyed the
Big E. As always everyone had a great time. There was so
much food it made deciding what to have for lunch really
hard. As always seeing the exhibits, animal and vendors
were a hit too. Thanks again for supporting me as
Secretary of the club for the next two years, I really
enjoy the job.

BIRTHDAYS IN THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER!

Sylvia H. Ray E. Catherine K. Kevin E. Jose L.
Zak B. John E. Holy G. Joe M. Arthur R.
Happy Birthday to all those celebrating yours this month!!

DONT FORGET TO VOTE!

WELL ITS FINALLY HERE! ELECTION TIME IS UPON US AND THE COUNTRY HAS TO
CHOOSE A NEW LEADERSHIP! ITS NOT JUST THE PRESIDENTS JOB AT STAKE!

Whether your Democrat, Republican, Independent or Green Party, you need to go to

the poles and vote! I can tell you that its more important than any election I have
witnessed.

You must be registered to vote in the town you live in presently. If you do not know
where to vote, you can go on line or walk into your local town hall to find out who is
running, how to vote if you do not know how, etc.

The next thing is getting to the poles! The VSC is your ride if you can not walk there
or get a friend to take you. Call Phyllis to reserve a time to go.
All towns in the Valley of course!

I will even support you by going in too! Please bring your

personal ID or license, you will have to show it at the polls. So
call my cell at 203-305-7895 by November 7th.

CHANGES IN YOUR NEWSLETTER.

Starting in January the Valley Social Club newsletter will begin to transition to an
all on line publication and will no longer be mailed out. As everyone knows money
is really tight these days and the budget for the club is no different. On average
the club spends about $380.00 per month getting the newsletter out to its
members. We also have been told that many members dont even read the
newsletter and just look at the calendar. To prepare for the change the club will
hold enlightened lunches to teach club members how to access the newsletter on
line. We will also have a limited number of newsletters at the club for those who
really cant get to a computer but they will be given out on a first come first serve
bases. We will also have calendars available in the club. We regret having to do
this. See our newsletter at www.BHcare.org, then look under Specialty Services.

A THANKSGIVING POEM
By Kelly Tamp
May your stuffing be taste.
May your turkey be plump.
May your potato's and gravy have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious and your pies take the prize.
And may your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs.

In the early 1900s Lady Mary Worley Montague developed a

NEW HAVEN PEER SUPPORT GRANTS DEADLINE!

The deadline for the peer support grants is November 18, 2016. All
grants need to be delivered to the Peer Support Services in New
Haven. These grants are like make a wish in a way. Ever wish you had
a chance to do something like photography? Well these grants help
people get started in that direction. Ivette from Peer Service came to
the club on October 4, 2016 to answer all questions about the grants.
How they work? Who buys the supplies? How to fill out the grants?
Who can help me with my grant, etc.? So if you want to do one please
see Jacques or Phyllis at the club. Grants are available in the club too!
Good To Luck All!
ICE CREAM AND AFGHANS
One of the great things about being at the club is the special little
things we do for the members. During the summer block party
members sold hand made (by our members) afghan's. The proceeds
from those sales were set aside for special occasions at the club.
In September we had a ice cream social which was free for the
members. It was a hot day for a September afternoon so it was a
final farewell to summer at the club.

Living Life
By Bonnie Mohr

Life is not a race but indeed a journey. Be honest, work hard, be choosy.
Say thank you, I love you and great job to some one everyone. Go to
church, take time for prayer. The lord giveth and he taketh away. Let
your handshake mean more than pen and paper. Love your life and what
youve been given its not an accident. Search for your purpose and do
the best you can. Dreaming does matter. It allows you to become that
person you aspire to be. Laugh often. Appreciate the little things in life
and enjoy them. Some of the best things are really free. Forgiveness
frees the soul. Take care of yourself. Plan for longevity. Recognize the
special people youve been blessed to know. Live for today, enjoy the
moment.

ITS BEEN A VERY GOOD YEAR AS CLUB HOUSE OF THE YEAR!

The club started in 1980. Ten members and two staff met in the basement of Christ Church on
South Cliff Street in Ansonia. Over the years there have been many different characters to
grace the club and each brought something to shape it to the great place it is now. We try to
make it a place to come that is safe from drugs and alcohol. We have activities daily to keep
active in the club and the communities our members live in. This past year we have been able
to call our place CLUB HOUSE OF THE YEAR! This was given to our club by the Keep the
Promise Coalition. A real tribute to all who have walked through our doors , including our own
Julianne M. who has been President for a real long time! Our members really took this award
seriously. Members made a better effort to attend the KTP Meetings, Legislative Breakfasts,
and making phone calls. We even hosted our first Candidates Forum on September 27th. We
have always traveled to Hartford to talk to our legislators and the governor if he is available.
Its not easy for members to talk to really important people they see on the T.V. but they have
learned these skills. We congratulate the next club house of the year and hope they cherish
this award as we have!

WE WERE HONOERED TO HELP WITH THE EVENING UNDER THE

STARS FUNDRAISER
Every year BHcare does a benefit to raise money and awareness of
our services. The people who attend the event are special people who
have supported BHcare for many years. This year something very
special happened. The Valley social club art program was asked to
copy this years theme; An Evening Under the Stars, on a back drop
for future event portraits. Under the watch full eye of Jacques
Maignan, our art program has gotten special recognition. Work has
been displayed for Hartford to Seymour. We have art work through
out some of our facilities and every year at the Block Party. Some
pieces even sold at the Pumpkin Festival in Seymour. A first
appearance, buy not our last. Our artists are great people with a keen
vision of how they would like their art seen and displayed.
