1. What to study?
Ethics is not a technical subject that requires you to study and remember a lot. It is
simply application of ethical values and concept in real life. So study accordingly.
Do ot try to ra thi kers sayi gs, differe t theories, types of attitude a d related
jargons of attitude building and change (same for other topics of ethics, attitude topic
was just an example).
Take up any standard book say lexicon or notes, whatever suits you. Now prepare topic
wise. More than reading , it is thinking and linking that is needed.
Firstly let me talk about values. Take up all the values one by one. Read from the book
and then think over it. Now write in your notes what you understand by it, some related
examples. Eg: Selflessness. What is selflessness? Example of selflessness (mother) , how
can I be selfless in personal life (family) and professional life ( duty). Likewise prepare all
values.
Then let us talk about topics. Read each topic and now think again. Eg: Emotional
Intelligence. What you understand by EI, why it is needed, how it will help in making you
an effective administrator, how will you use your EI in a situation, EI in personal and
public life etc. Likewise all topics are covered. Read Think Write(small notes)
Also create a repository of good words, examples etc.
For case studies, you do not need to read a lot and research a lot. Just refer some
different type of case studies from a standard book and also from test series. And see
what types of different cases are possible and how to answer them contextually. You
just need to learn how to answer case studies keeping in mind ethical and practical
perspective. That will come by solving 25-30 cases studies easily.
Refer Insights on India and one good test series papers for ethics as well.
P.S Attaching my sample notes

Re e

Do t
Do not write too general: Remember the question might look general studies one but answer
has to be ethical. That is what differentiate a GS and an ethics answer.
Do t sho your k o ledge: do t quote technical jargons, theories, thinkers if not needed.
Write in context of the question, if needed use these things contextually. Keep your answer as
practical as possible.
Dos
Keep your answer ethical, practical and hanging around values and concepts.
Try to use examples and illustrations wherever possible. Also relate it to current affairs
wherever you feel like.
Use government policies, schemes, initiatives wherever possible.
You can also use quotes of scholars, ethical concepts and terms contextually to enrich your
answer wherever possible.
I used them to help me write better ans ers. These notes ont help you directly as they are ery
small and concise but will definitely help or enrich you some way. You can take some help and make
your own notes. I relied mostly on my hand written notes once done with reading main book or
sources.
