Let God Be God

God especially hears the cries of the oppressed.(Sir)
I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. (2 Tm)
The parable of the self-righteous Pharisee and the tax collector. (Luke)
In 1963, President
John F. Kennedy was
presenting comedian
Bob Hope with the
Congressional Gold
Medal award for
services to his country. Bob couldnt resist a chance for a
laugh. He told the
president, I feel very
humble, but I think I
have the strength of
character to fight it.
Media mogul Ted Turner said, If only I had a little humility, I would be perfect.
The late boxing champion Muhammad Ali topped
Ted Turner by saying, When you are as great as I
am it is hard to be humble.
Comedian Phyllis Diller said she learned humility
from mirrors.
The Pharisee in todays Gospel clearly had a
problem with being humble. Hopefully we can steer
around his example. We pray that we will have the
strength to avoid bragging about our own great
faith, endless good works, inspiring prayerfulness
and personal beauty.
