Lesson Plan Micro Tutorial Presentation on Hazards Fires

Outline of the topic:
This topic involves teaching students about the hazards of fires as well as what
fires can offer in an outdoor/camping or bushwalking environment. Students
will look at basic fire uses e.g. cooking, warmth and signal, lighting fires in
difficult situations e.g. rain/wet conditions and snow, the management of
dependents near fires, conditions likely for a wildfire, basic first aid for treating
burns and how to prevent getting caught in a wildfire and what to do if caught.
Key Learning Outcomes for Students:
The purpose of this lesson is for students to (by the end of this lesson) know
what fires are and involve, reasons to use fires, the dangers of fires and what
fire safety precautions they should take into account when outdoors. They will
be able to understand how fires work e.g. fuel, oxygen, heat/fuel source, why
they are used in particular scenarios and the ways to go about using fires at an
outdoor camp. Students will also have knowledge of how to conduct basic first
aid for treatment for burns and will use their critical thinking and teamwork
skills in relevant, real life scenarios. They will be able to understand ways of
how to prevent getting caught in an event of a wildfire and how to respond if
being caught in a wildfire.
Lesson Outline
Introduction:
- Do The Dangers of fires outweigh their uses?
