exams. Better and fairer forms of assessment include more coursework and
presentations, continuous assessments throughout the year and term papers as
well as projects. As a matter of fact, education should be more about what is drawn
out of people than what is drummed into them and this is not done through
examinations. In modern day education, familiarity with word processing, desktop
publishing and power point is a valuable asset and while essays and oral
presentations allow the student to demonstrate these skills, sadly traditional exams
require students to write essays with a pen and paper, a very unnatural endeavor in

purpose and therefore they should not be abolished. I believe that they should not
be abolished because exams are the only way for teachers to get feedbacks from
their students regarding their lesson taught. To ensure that the students understand
what the teachers have taught, the exams are held. So through the exams, the
teacher can categorize the smart students and the weaker students because not all
are born smart. At the same time, teachers can find a solution to help the weaker
students to improve themselves by giving more attention.
I strongly oppose what had been said by the first speaker of the government
that examinations create fear, tension, anxiety and stress in the minds of all
students when facing examination. In fact, examinations give people important
practice in dealings with stress which van help later on with lifes challenges. As a
matter of fact, the purpose of exam has always been a test to let
beings, to know our limits and standards,

2nd Opposition
Good morning to our honourable Chairperson, my most distinguished judges,
ladies and gentlemen. The government team said that exams should be abolished
because they are not a reliable test of gauging the ability of the students as luck
plays a major role. I beg to differ from that ridiculous viewpoint. I think they are
wrong to think so because if a student has a good study method such as keeping in
touch with the books every day, he or she does not have to study last minute and
exams make people better at the subject. Since contents tested in exams are
random, students study even harder. When there is a competition, these students
study even harder. So, the examination system has its own benefits. It is like a selftest to see where the students are and how good they fare in something that they
do. So, for the purpose of an exam has always been a test to let us, students, to
know our strengths and weaknesses.
I would also like to rebut the viewpoint of the first government speaker that
examinations should be abolished because they are stressful to the students and
caused them much feat, tension and anxiety. Let me ask the speaker what does not
stress him or her? In fact, life as s student itself is stressful. We wake up each
morning, having to rush thorough the routine of getting ready for school on time,
completing the many pieces of homework and more coursework and coupled with
the many co-curricular activities. In fact, examinations helps us to deal with stress
which will definitely help us later to deal with our daily life issues.
My third argument is that students who cheat by copying from a nearby
student and get good marks has nothing to do with the implementation of an
examination and it is ridiculous to abolish examinations because of a handful of
cheaters or deceits. These cheaters in examinations have no integrity or honesty.
Examination play important role as an education quality controller, a measure for
determining the graduation of the students and as an admission selection of higher
level of education.
In conclusion, I reaffirm that examinations should not be abolished
3rd Opposition
Good morning to our honourable Chairperson, my most distinguished judges,
ladies and gentlemen. I beg to differ from the viewpoints of the 3 rd government
speaker who said that students involved in examinations to last-minute study,
cramming in stuff and memorizing facts what they neglect their social life and
sleep. Frankly speaking who can put his or hand on his or her heart and say that he
or she would have learned the lessons regarding different subjects himself or herself
is the present examination system is not there. I bet without the exam system,
students will only be engrossed in their online or computer games instead of
learning and understanding the topics dealing with different subjects to prepare
themselves to sit for the exam at the end of the year. Students who lack of social
life or sleep are due to the fact, they spend most of their time or sleeping hours
playing games and definitely not studying. In fact, it is the students mistake not to
have a good study method. If they have a good study method, they will surely get
enough sleep, free from pressure and tension because they know that they are
ready for the exam.
Besides, I would like to rebut the view of the second government speaker who
thinks that examinations are unreliable tests to assess peoples grasp of the
subject. A student can get higher or lower marks that he or she deserves. In actual
fact, without exams, there is nothing to monitor or check how a student is
performing academically. This results in some students becoming lazy, lack of
knowledge and even illiterate. Exams are important and should not be abolished
because they are comprehensive tests held every term to assess students
performance and teachers get the feedback from students. This is to ensure that
the students understand what the teachers have taught and fro the feedback, the
teachers know how to group their students into various groups based on their
performances. At the same time, the teachers will find a solution to help the weaker
students to improve themselves or give them more attention.
Last but not least, I totally disagree with the first government speaker that
examinations create fear, tension, anxiety and stress in the minds of the students
causing some to even take their own lives if they do not live up to their parents
expectations. On the contrary, exams test the true potential of a child and help him
or her to face this competitive world with confidence. Exams are tests of his or her
knowledge and knowledge is power. As long as students learn how to handle the
pressure and how to control their time wisely, they should not fear, feel tensed up
and anxious. With that I thank you.
