EXAMINATIONS SHOULD BE ABOLISHED

Good morning to our honourable Chairperson, distinguished judges, ladies
and gentlemen. Today, our motion is Examinations should be abolished. My
members and I will prove to you that examinations give more disadvantages to the
students. My second speaker will enlighten you that our stand is not wrong that is
examinations should be abolished. Exams. The word that all students fear. Exams
are part and parcel of a school life that all students have to go through. What are
exams? Exams are longer and more comprehensive versions of tests held every
semester. Initially, they were created to monitor and check how a student was
performing academically, they now have so much more pressure on them that
students are burning the midnight oil to study for an exam. This results in some
students becoming ill due to stress and lack of sleep. They have become more and
more stressful. So, I strongly support the motion that examinations should be
abolished or done away with entirely. They should be stopped completely.
The approach of present examination systems means the beginning of fear,
tension and anxiety and stress in the minds of the students under which if a student
doesnt perform according to his or her parents expectation may lead to the
students even taking the extreme step of ending their lives by committing suicide.
Besides, the pressure of performing well is so much that if the student has
not studied up to the required standards, he or she even sometimes uses unfair
means in the examination hall to copy from a near sitting intelligent student and get
good marks.
Lastly, I would like to reaffirm my stand that examinations should be
abolished based on the reasons above.

2. EXAMINATIONS SHOULD BE ABOLISHED

Good morning to our honourable Chairperson, my most distinguished judges,
ladies and gentlemen. First, let me define what are examinations. Examinations are
assessment tests implement at school or national levels as a kind of evaluation of
the learning competence of the students. They are used to measure the level of
proficiency of students for several important subjects. As what my first speaker had
said, examinations are stressful and cause all kinds of fear, tension, anxiety and
stress in the minds of students. Therefore, I strongly support the motion that
examinations should be got rid off before they cause more harm to students.
My point of view is that the present examination system is not a reliable test
of measuring or gauging the ability of the students as luck plays a major role.
Besides, it is impossible to test every aspect of a subject within the short exam
time. If a student is lucky and what he has studied for is tested, he will score high.
Moreover, exams dont properly assess peoples grasp of the subject. You can get
high or lower marks than you deserve.
Furthermore, it is impossible to set the questions at the same difficulty every
year. If it is easier, a student will secure higher, Besides, it is possible to study the
tested subjects for the exam then forget everything and get score high marks.
Sometimes, some cheaters go undetected and score high marks.
In short, I would like to reaffirm my case that examinations should be
abolished because they are not reliable tests of measuring the ability of the
students besides providing huge unnecessary emotional burden and stress.

With that, I thank you.

3rd Government : Examinations should be abolished

Good morning to our honourable Chairperson, my most distinguished judges,
ladies and gentlemen. I want to state my viewpoint that examinations should be
abolished because they are encouraging cramming or last-minute study. Because of
this, the students cramming will have to put aside his or her social life, have to
sacrifice their sleep and even worse, the students will be in great pressure and
tension.
I would like to rebut the second opposition speaker who said that it is
important for a student to have a good study method by keeping in touch with the
books every day. By so doing, she or he does not have to study last minute. May I
ask how many students are capable of having a good study method? In fact, only a
handful are capable of doing so with most students not knowing how to study well
and besides, they do not have the discipline to do . Moreover, examinations take
the pleasure out of learning for many students and pressurize teachers to teach the
test rather than teaching for meaning, understanding critical thinking and pleasure.
Furthermore, examinations arent adequate preparation for students working
life and tess only students memories of a subject rather than all round knowledge.
It is undoubtedly, important to test knowledge as well as all round-skills, and this
can be done much more fairly through methods such as essays and the use of
coursework and definitely not through the traditional hellish world of end of the year

exams. Better and fairer forms of assessment include more coursework and
presentations, continuous assessments throughout the year and term papers as
well as projects. As a matter of fact, education should be more about what is drawn
out of people than what is drummed into them and this is not done through
examinations. In modern day education, familiarity with word processing, desktop
publishing and power point is a valuable asset and while essays and oral
presentations allow the student to demonstrate these skills, sadly traditional exams
require students to write essays with a pen and paper, a very unnatural endeavor in
the 21st century,
Are exams a valid form of assessment or simply a memory test? You decide!

1st Opposition

Good morning to our Chairperson, my most distinguished judges, ladies and

gentlemen. I strongly oppose the government that examinations should be
abolished. In fact,

I am in favour of school examinations as they serve a useful

purpose and therefore they should not be abolished. I believe that they should not
be abolished because exams are the only way for teachers to get feedbacks from
their students regarding their lesson taught. To ensure that the students understand
what the teachers have taught, the exams are held. So through the exams, the
teacher can categorize the smart students and the weaker students because not all
are born smart. At the same time, teachers can find a solution to help the weaker
students to improve themselves by giving more attention.
I strongly oppose what had been said by the first speaker of the government
that examinations create fear, tension, anxiety and stress in the minds of all
students when facing examination. In fact, examinations give people important
practice in dealings with stress which van help later on with lifes challenges. As a
matter of fact, the purpose of exam has always been a test to let
beings, to know our limits and standards,

us , human

My team members will enlighten you that many benefits of having

examinations. If implementations of examinations are carried out effectively ad
efficiently, they are a good measure to reflect the students competence,
In short, I reaffirm my case that examinations should not be abolished
because teachers and the school know about the capability or competence of their
students through examinations.

2nd Opposition
Good morning to our honourable Chairperson, my most distinguished judges,
ladies and gentlemen. The government team said that exams should be abolished
because they are not a reliable test of gauging the ability of the students as luck
plays a major role. I beg to differ from that ridiculous viewpoint. I think they are
wrong to think so because if a student has a good study method such as keeping in
touch with the books every day, he or she does not have to study last minute and
exams make people better at the subject. Since contents tested in exams are
random, students study even harder. When there is a competition, these students
study even harder. So, the examination system has its own benefits. It is like a selftest to see where the students are and how good they fare in something that they
do. So, for the purpose of an exam has always been a test to let us, students, to
know our strengths and weaknesses.
I would also like to rebut the viewpoint of the first government speaker that
examinations should be abolished because they are stressful to the students and
caused them much feat, tension and anxiety. Let me ask the speaker what does not

stress him or her? In fact, life as s student itself is stressful. We wake up each
morning, having to rush thorough the routine of getting ready for school on time,
completing the many pieces of homework and more coursework and coupled with
the many co-curricular activities. In fact, examinations helps us to deal with stress
which will definitely help us later to deal with our daily life issues.
My third argument is that students who cheat by copying from a nearby
student and get good marks has nothing to do with the implementation of an
examination and it is ridiculous to abolish examinations because of a handful of
cheaters or deceits. These cheaters in examinations have no integrity or honesty.
Examination play important role as an education quality controller, a measure for
determining the graduation of the students and as an admission selection of higher
level of education.
In conclusion, I reaffirm that examinations should not be abolished

3rd Opposition
Good morning to our honourable Chairperson, my most distinguished judges,
ladies and gentlemen. I beg to differ from the viewpoints of the 3 rd government
speaker who said that students involved in examinations to last-minute study,
cramming in stuff and memorizing facts what they neglect their social life and
sleep. Frankly speaking who can put his or hand on his or her heart and say that he
or she would have learned the lessons regarding different subjects himself or herself
is the present examination system is not there. I bet without the exam system,
students will only be engrossed in their online or computer games instead of
learning and understanding the topics dealing with different subjects to prepare
themselves to sit for the exam at the end of the year. Students who lack of social
life or sleep are due to the fact, they spend most of their time or sleeping hours

playing games and definitely not studying. In fact, it is the students mistake not to
have a good study method. If they have a good study method, they will surely get
enough sleep, free from pressure and tension because they know that they are
ready for the exam.
Besides, I would like to rebut the view of the second government speaker who
thinks that examinations are unreliable tests to assess peoples grasp of the
subject. A student can get higher or lower marks that he or she deserves. In actual
fact, without exams, there is nothing to monitor or check how a student is
performing academically. This results in some students becoming lazy, lack of
knowledge and even illiterate. Exams are important and should not be abolished
because they are comprehensive tests held every term to assess students
performance and teachers get the feedback from students. This is to ensure that
the students understand what the teachers have taught and fro the feedback, the
teachers know how to group their students into various groups based on their
performances. At the same time, the teachers will find a solution to help the weaker
students to improve themselves or give them more attention.
Last but not least, I totally disagree with the first government speaker that
examinations create fear, tension, anxiety and stress in the minds of the students
causing some to even take their own lives if they do not live up to their parents
expectations. On the contrary, exams test the true potential of a child and help him
or her to face this competitive world with confidence. Exams are tests of his or her
knowledge and knowledge is power. As long as students learn how to handle the
pressure and how to control their time wisely, they should not fear, feel tensed up
and anxious. With that I thank you.
