In the class, we discussed three main types of project delivery methods: 1) Design Bid Build, 2)
Design Build, and 3) Construction Management. In addition to these three types of project
delivery methods, there is another project delivery method: Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
Please read the AIA document on the Moodle, and try to answer the following questions:
a) What is IPD?
b) What are the fundamental principles of IPD?
c) Please summarize the characteristics that differentiate IPD from traditional delivery methods.
d) Based on your understanding, what could be the barriers for the application of IPD in the
industry?

Building information modeling (BIM) is a revolutionary technology and process that has
transformed the way buildings are designed, analyzed, constructed, and managed. Please answer
the following questions, after you find and read the documents related to BIM in the internet.
a) What is BIM and what benefits can BIM bring to a project?
b) What are the potential challenges of using BIM in a project?
c) List BIM tools currently available and their main functions.
d) Based on your understandings of BIM and Project Delivery Systems (DBB, DB, CM@Risk,
and IPD), please indicate which project delivery system is most suitable for the adoption of BIM
and which project delivery system is most unsuitable for the adoption of BIM. Explain why.
