The following "Introduction to ProfiSignal Basic" will help you gain a quick
understanding of ProfiSignal Basic and enable you to begin using it
immediately.
The detailed user manual is then intended as a reference source.
"Learning by Doing" is known to be the simplest method to familiarize
yourself with a new system.
The complete
"ProfiSignal Basic Manual"
is available as a PDF file on the ProfiSignal Basic software CD.

The ProfiSignal family

This section provides an overview of products from the ProfiSignal
family.

Overview
ProfiSignal Go is the entry-level software for measurement data
acquisition and evaluation.
ProfiSignal Basic includes ProfiSignal Go and provides operating and
monitoring objects as well as trend diagram and characteristic curve
functions.
ProfiSignal Klicks includes ProfiSignal Go and ProfiSignal Basic and enables
automation of processes via the Klicks language for technicians.
ProfiSignal Go can be upgraded to ProfiSignal Basic or ProfiSignal Klicks.
ProfiSignal Basic can be upgraded to ProfiSignal Klicks.

ProfiSignal Go (Online Analysis)

Online Analysis is unique as being the fastest known method of visualizing
measurement data on the screen and as being the simplest method to
analyse measurement data.
Online Analysis is therefore ideal for servicing, mobile applications, fault
diagnostics, start-ups etc.
Online Analysis can run parallel to other system operations without
affecting their functioning.

ProfiSignal Basic
Process visualization (also known as ProzessVisu or Visu) is software for
process operation, observation and monitoring.
Users can generate their own visualization views that use operating and
monitoring objects as well as trend diagrams and characteristic curves.
Visualization is especially suited to experiments, testing procedures, test
stands and production processes.
Quantitative / consumption data can then be acquired and evaluated.

ProfiSignal Klicks
ProfiSignal Klicks includes ProfiSignal Go and ProfiSignal Basic.
Klicks enables automation of experiments, testing procedures, test stands
and production processes.
Klicks is a language designed for technicians engineers and scientists.
Users are then no longer dependent on IT specialists.
Tests / experiments
Measurement data acquisition and evaluation
Automated measurement procedures
Test stand automation
Process visualization and automation

Automation takes place by users selecting programming instructions from

context menus. The typing in of programming code or the learning of a
programming language then becomes unnecessary. This represents a
major difference to conventional programming languages.
Klicks is then a method for configuring rather than writing programs.

The DataService
This manual deals almost exclusively with Basic applications. Reference is
made to the DataService only in respect of test channels installed within
the DataService, and measurement databases used for long-term data
storage.
The DataService is an independent program that communicates with
measurement hardware and Basic applications.
The DataService / Configurator runs as a background service. Users
require the DataService only to configure hardware channels or to set up
databases for continuous data storage.
Note:
Explanations for hardware configuration are available in the hardware
manuals.

The DataService/Configurator performs the following tasks:

Hardware configuration
Management of archived data
Data access to connected Basic applications.

3.3

Online Analysis
Online Analysis provides functions for measurement data acquisition,
monitoring and online evaluation.
Online Analysis is the quickest known path from sensor connection to
trend portrayal.
Users can set up any number of Online Analyses. A diagram is established
for each Online Analysis.
This can be a trend (Yt diagram), a characteristic curve (YX diagram) or a
logic diagram.
A trend can process large numbers of channels. Specific channels can be
accessed using a hide/show function.
Up to four axes can be used. Channels are assigned to the individual axes.
Axes can be extended and compressed.
The image below shows multiple Online Analyses that can be displayed as
required.

Each Online Analysis is automatically assigned a user-defined

configuration.
Multiple Online Analyses can run simultaneously.
Users open each Online Analysis when required. The configuration can then
be amended and measurement data evaluated.
Each Online Analysis is assigned an individual name.

Storing measurement data

Data storage can be performed either as a continuous or batch process.
Continuous data storage can be performed as a background service while
batch measurement data files (records) are being assigned start/stop
settings.

Continuous data recording

This is important for plant and machinery monitoring, for continuous
production processes, for the acquisition of quantities, and for endurance
testing etc.
Note:
DataService measurement databases are for continuous measurement
data recording.
Measurement databases are set up within the DataService. Channels are
then assigned to the databases.
Continuous measurement data can be portrayed and evaluated both
online and offline.

Batch data recording (recorder files)

This is important for applications in experimental trials, fault data
acquisition, fault detection, the monitoring of plant and machinery,
production processes etc.
Recorder objects are used to store measurement data to *.hds files.

These can be operating or monitoring objects.
They are available to both visualization and parameter displays.
Diagram objects
These can be Yt or YX (chacacteristic curve) diagrams.
They are available to visualization displays.
Report objects
These contain report fields that together make up a report.
Channels
These are hardware and test channels provided by the the DataService
and configured within the DataService.
Hardware channels deliver measurement data coming from
hardware devices.
Virtual channels are computed channels with computation
having been performed within the measurement hardware.
Test channels can function as proxy channels, e.g. when an
application requires writing but no hardware is available.

Storing measurement data

Continuous and batch data storage can be combined within one diagram,
independently from one another.

Continuous data storage

Continuous data storage is distinguished by uninterrupted data
acquisition.
The data channels for continuous storage are assigned to a database
within the DataService. These channels are then available to any trend
diagram.

Batch data storage

Batch data acquisition is distinguished by start/stop settings and storage
to files with individual or automatically generated file names.
Recorder objects are used for batch data storage.
Recorder objects can be linked to trend objects to create a combined
display and storage visualization. Measurement data is saved to *.hds
files. These can then be accessed and evaluated at any time.
