These books arent exactly spirituality, but I think they might be helpful because they are very

different from the usual run of abstract, philosophical, books which try to give all the reasons why
God must allow suffering. (Those kinds of books are helpful if you want something abstract or
philosophical, but they dont often help people who are in the midst of hurt.) These books are also
very different from each other, although I get the sense they work together well.
I hope this proves helpful. As I said in the shop, I cannot guarantee they are still available or in print.
Weak But Strong, John Helm, 1985 Anzea, ISBN: 0-85892-243-6
(About developing a Theology of Weakness about personal and Church issues.)
This looks at the actual experience of individuals and communities, trying to live with weakness and
suffering, not just a theoretical or philosophical look at why God allows suffering. It is not a book
about Spirituality but it does provide the basis for thinking through the issues.
The Art & Vocation of Caring for People in Pain, Karl A. Schultz, 1993 Paulist Press (USA),

(About counselling those in pain, including a section on humour!)
This is primarily about Pastoral Care, but looks at the story of Job and use of God-talk and even has
a section on Charismatic Prophecy!

(An examination of the teaching on Hope and Suffering in the Old Testament and in Paul)
This seeks to provide a biblical basis for looking at the issue of suffering and as such, provides the
biblical basis for a spirituality of suffering. Also includes interaction with some other viewpoints,
such as When Bad Things Happen to Good People.
