Time Management
Often times, high school students do not apply time management to their schedules.
We tend to push projects or studying off until the very last second causing us to pull an allnighter in order to complete the task. This is a main reason why freshman struggle when they
reach college. If we learn how to manage our time while we are in high school, it will result in
fewer sleepless nights and a more organized lifestyle.

As of right now my three main activities include sleeping, sports and school. For the rest of my
day the groups are split fairly equally. However, for college my sleeping percent will decrease
dramatically, while my homework and sports will increase.

From this schedule I will only be going to class for around 3 hours every weekday.
Although that may not seem like a lot of hours, I will have to juggle class and grades with
softball because I will be a college athlete. I will work out a couple hours before class with my
team and have a team practice once my classes finish. College will be a true test of my time
management skills.

The differences in these two schedules are the amount of time I will spend doing
homework. In high school I average about two hours a day but once I get to college I will be
doing around four hours. I also go to class for 13.4% of the week and in college that percent will
decrease to 8.9% which is an advantage. Some similarities include my time spent eating,
listening to music and on personal hygiene. Another similarity is in the amount of hours I spend
working, which comes to be zero. I do not have a job right now because all my time is devoted
to school and softball and in college that will not change. The activity that surprised me the
most was the difference in hours spent sleeping. I knew that it would decrease but I did not
predict it to be such a dramatic change. I am a little worried because I already feel tired most
days of the week and in college I will get even fewer hours to sleep. My main focus on my time
management in college will revolve around getting myself as much sleep as possible. I learned
that I should enjoy high school now because once I get to college, my work load will increase
dramatically while my hours spent asleep will fall almost 10%.
