New Bridge is committed to the fair treatment of its staff volunteers and service
users. We recognise the contribution that all people can make to the organisation
and welcome applications from a wide range of candidates including those with
criminal records. We understand that potential volunteers who have criminal
records may be reluctant to apply for voluntary work where this would involve the
disclosure of their record. We appreciate that people are often ashamed and
embarrassed about their cautions and convictions and/or they fear they will not be
treated fairly because of them. We ask that volunteers have two years clear of any
supervision or detention.
New Bridge works on the assumption that people apply for voluntary work in order
to help others, to meet new people, to develop new skill, to make a difference etc.,
and have no ulterior motive in seeking such work. With this in mind, we will,
wherever possible, provide opportunities for people, and do so in ways that will not
put you or our service users at risk.
This voluntary role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 as it
can involve working with vulnerable adults and visiting HM Prison Establishments.
We will need to know about ALL criminal convictions (served, pending, spent and
unspent) and cautions you may have received. Please rest assured that we will
handle the information you provide us in confidence. Failure to disclose any
relevant information could result in the termination of your volunteering with us.
If you require any further information about your rights in relation to Disclosure
applications, and our responsibilities to you, please ask us for a copy of the
Disclosure and Barring Services Code of Practice or download this from the
Bureaus website: www.homeoffice.gov.uk/agencies-public-bodies/dbs
Alternatively, should you wish to provide details of convictions and cautions under
separate cover, please send to New Bridge Volunteer Director and tick the box to
indicate you have done so.
