Advantages of Democratic Government

Democracy is as Abraham Lincoln said a government of the

people, by the people, for the people. For any country to
progress it is important that democracy is established.
Advantages of a democratic country are the citizens of
the country participate in the making of important decisions
that effect the country, it ensures all members of society are all
treated equally and the general public are aware of the political
condition of the country. I will elaborate on each of these
advantages separately.
The first advantage I will discuss today is that all
citizens over a certain age are entitled to participate in the
making of important decisions, this helps to ensure smooth
running of the government. The fact that the people of a
country help to make important decisions makes it easier for
the government to come to a decision that ensures the
satisfaction of the citizens of their country. It also prevents the
government or an individual, from taking too much control of
the country and forming a dictatorship which would not allow
the members of a country to take part in the making of
important decisions. This can also prevent a revolt in the
country as all citizens had the chance to voice their opinion via
a vote. This is an advantage of democracy as it ensures that
everyone in society has a fair say in the running of the country.
This leads into the next advantage I will discuss which is
that democracy ensures that all members of society are treated
equally. This helps to maintain equality in a country and
prevent apartheid and racism in a country. All citizens have the
right to vote which means that even if someone has a different
ethnic background, religious beliefs, skin colour or gender they
still have the same right to vote as anyone else in the country.
Democracy can help prevent and stop discrimination against
members of society with a less affluent background than
others. People with a more affluent background often have
more say in the running of a country in a non democratic
society as they can used their money to gain control, but a
democratic government helps prevent this from happening.

The last advantage I will discuss today is that democracy

ensures that general public are aware of the political condition
of the country. Based on this information the citizens of a
country can carefully decide who they want to elect to run the
government. This means that the people can decide who they
think is most fit to run the country and who they think will run
the country the most efficiently. This is a big advantage of
democracy and shows how important democracy is for the
progress of a country.

democracy is the best way to run a country, as I said it allows
all the citizens of a country to take part in the making of
important decisions. It ensures that all members of society are
treated equally. It also ensures that the general public are
aware of the political state of the country.
