Assignment-1

1. Determine the current and voltage across the inductor as a function of time after the switch is connected to
node B. The switch was initially connected to A for a long time allowing steady state condition to prevail.

2. The electron concentration in silicon is given by n(x) = 10 6 + 1016 exp(x/Lp) , x 0 The value of Lp is
10 m. The electron diffusion coefficient is Dn = 18 cm 2/s Determine the electron diffusion current density
at x = 10 m.
3. The diode in the circuit shown in Figure below is biased with a constant current source I. Sinusoidal
signal vs is coupled through RS and C. Assume that C is large so that it acts as a short circuit to the signal. If
RS = 260 , draw the AC equivalent circuit and find vo/vs, for I = 1 mA, and I = 0.01 mA.

4. Consider the source-follower circuit shown below.

(a) Draw the small signal equivalent circuit and calculate voltage gain Av = v0/vi
(b) The most negative output signal voltage occurs when the transistor just cuts off. Show that most
negative output signal is given by vo(min) = -IDQ RS RL/(RL+RS).
(c) Find out the corresponding input voltage.
