Instructions for installation of Mathworks Matlab Student Editions

This documentation is provided in order to assist students in the orderly installation


of the relevant version of Matlab. It is advised that for advanced technical or
licensing issue, to contact School of Enginering IT Department HelpDesk or to
Matlab directly. Please however, feel free to provide feedback on this document as
you are helping your colleagues. Suggestions for paths are based on the
installations on the ENGLAB computers. Screen captures were done on Windows 7
with UAC off and the firewall enabled. Please note that there will be additional
prompts for Windows Vista 7, 8 and 8.1 with and without User Access Control
enabled.
1) Go to http://www.uab.edu/it/software/index.php. Select Click here to
order/download select software and log in with your BlazerID and Password.
From the drop-down menu, select Mathworks/Matlab (Student).
2) Save a copy of the MathworksMatlab-SiteLicenseAgreement-Students.pdf which
may be found under the Details for this download. Select Click here to
proceed. If prompted, select Accept the License at the bottom of the
screen. You should receive an email confirmation from AskiIt.
3) Go to http://www.mathworks.com/ to register for your (new) Mathworks account
using your BlazerID email address. Make sure to specify Academic use when
asked how you will use the software. Upon successful account creation, log on
the Mathworks website, select My Account and choose Manage Licenses.
4) Click on Add license, select Activation Key and press Continue.

5) Enter the Student Activation Key that was provided in Step #1. Note: if the
browser is truncating your key, use notepad to copy and paste your key.

6) Press done upon successful license association.

7) The License dashboard should now include an additional license (731730).

8) Choose one of the following two options:


a) Online download:
i) Select this license. Click on Download Products. Please note: check with
your instructor for the suggested version of Matlab. The current version is

R2014a.

ii) Click on the Download R2014a and save the file to a known location.

iii) Locate and run the installation file: matlab_R2014a_win64.

b) Offline installation:Connect using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN to the L Drive.


Copy the installation files located here to your laptop or memory stick.
Launch Setup.exe
9) Check the Log in with a Mathworks Account and click Next

Click the radio button Yes and press Next

Log in to your Mathworks Account which you created earlier.

Click Next

Installation should proceed

Select License 731730 Total Academic Headcount Standalone Named
User and press Next.

Following windows will appear

Select the default location and click on the Next.

Click on the Next.

Click on the next

Verify packages to be installed and Click on Install.

Installation should proceed.

Click Next when the following window appear

Click Next to activate Matlab

23)

Click Next.

Wait for the connection.

Specify the user that will be licensed to use this software. Note: depending on
your installation procedure, this may not be the current user.

Verify information to be sent and click Confirm.

27)

Upon successful activation, click Finish. Matlab should now be correctly

installed.
