Working Mom: Cornering a Market

By: Cindylou J. Marapao

It is a long shot to get something off the ground not in line with the field you are
working 8-hours a day. It needs a bunch of elbow grease to be excellent in both
areas. However for someone having the potential to start up a business while being
employed, it is possible to have a full swing.
Delilah Taladua, the eldest child of a walis tambo seller, Cerilo Santorca and a plain
housewife, Lily Santorca, had to make herself become a working student in order to
study. And by chance, she was able to finish a degree. Leila had been a Provincial
Government employee since 2013. She was married to a mekaniko for almost 21
years and they had four offspring. Kaya ra ang work but the salary is not enough to
support our familys needs she exclaimed. With the fact that her husband does not
have a stable job, she had to double her effort.
Influenced by her fathers ingeniousness in business, she had foreseen herself to be
on a roll and hit the point of earning a higher income.

Not satisfied of her

compensation out from her present job, Leilah had thought of herself, grabbing the
opportunity to be in the drivers seat of expanding her business and becoming an
effective employee to her employer at the same time.
January 29, 2016, she made herself one of the members of Alliance in Motion Global
Incorporated a direct sales MLM company that distributes and markets top-of the
line food supplements. She ventured in Networking through Miley, who is an upline.
Leila was able to learn the ropes of networking and reach the point to be in the

black. Unfortunately, her upline had a poor performance that made her a way to go
the extra mile.
Her first business when she got married was running an Auto Parts and Repair shop
but coming up short, it did not last. Starting from the ground up, she was able to
invest in 3 motorcycles and make it available for lease and running 10 years in the
present.
Getting herself through direct selling is her longest engagement in the industry.
Before getting married and being employed, Delilah was already in the line. She is a
seller of Avon, Natasha and Zoom products. For her, Being a direct seller, wala
nako maglisod ug ayo in handling the business kay pwede ra bitbiton ang products,
daghan ko ug friends istoryahan lang for a short time mahalinan na and dili kaayo
dako ang capital ang gikinahanglan. Isa pa, laagan man gud ko and through it
nakameet nako ug new friends nakaraise pa ko ug extra income bisan ginagmay
ra.
Evident as it is, Leilahs sideline is progressive. Kapoy siya usahay knowing nga I
have to report 8 hours a day aside from running the business, pero patience is
really a virtue. Customers she had in the past are still her served customers in the
present. She was good enough to take care of her relationship with them. Ang
tawo ug naay kwarta mubayad gyd na pero ug wala mubalibad jud. Dili ko hilig

Increasing are the numbers of her customer. The

relationship she built with them is more important than the money that she reaps
from them. After office hours, she gave her focus to her sideline, making her
manage wisely the time.

Delilah is one of the employees who corner a market. Making it possible, she has
her so called envelope system in which she had one evelope for savings, for profit,
and for other expenses. Every year she sets a goal to have another new business to
invest in out from the income she earned from her current business. Being able to
save a range of 40 to 50 thousand pesos out from her income, she was planning to
have a franchise of her current direct selling products.
Having a business is of great help in financing our daily endeavors. Everyday ka ga
income and you will have enough. Dili ka maka encounter of conflict if you have a
proper control of your earnings and had taken good care of your customers.
