Description

KDIs

With this being the second full week of October

many children have been mentioning various
monsters associated with Halloween. Therefore,
this week has been all about monsters and
reinforcing their nonexistence.

1. Monster Bingo! This small group session began

with a reading of Theres Something in My Attic by
Mercer Mayer. Next, the children engaged in a
bingo game where various clues were given to try
to determine which monster on the bingo sheet
they had to cover up. Each monster card had
three clues about the monster leading the children
to engage in the process of elimination. After each
monster card had been read the children took
turns making up their own clues for monsters on
the bingo sheet.

2. Monster Hunt: This group session began with a

reading of Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed
Emberley. Afterward, the children were given a
sheet of paper with the alphabet on it and sent
out to engage in a letter hunt. The children had a
blast finding all the letters that had been hidden
around the Niles hallways. As soon as a letter was
found the children were to cross off the matching
letter on their sheet. A discussion about the letter
sound and words that could possibly start with
that letter followed.

3. Spooky orange day pumpkin pie: In honor of

Orange day this small group began with a reading
of Miss Fionas Stupendous Pumpkin Pie by Mark
Moulton. Following the pumpkin pie theme, the
children made their own mini versions. In order to
do this the children were challenged to follow a
picture recipe of mini pumpkin pie that asked
them to measure, scoop, smash, mix and finally
decorate.
