Parameter vs. Statistics Know the pertinent differences between a parameter and a statistic. Be able to explain
how each are used.
Discrete Variable, Continuous Variables, Qualatative Data, Quantative Data Know how each of these are
defined and be able to provide examples of each .
Bar Charts, Pareto Charts, Pie Charts, You need to know the differences between each of these and be able to
read them.
Critical Value z /2 Know how to find a critical value when given only a confidence level.
Sampling Understand and define the differences between a random sample and a simple random sample. Also
know and understand the difference between a parameter and a statistic.
Sampling Know the different types of samples; Voluntary Response Sample, Convenience Sample, Systematic Sample, Cluster Sample, and Stratified Sampling. Be able to give an example of each type.
Disjoint Sets Know how to find the compliment of an event. Understand how to use the equation 1 = A + A.
Addition & Multiplicatin Rule Know when to appy the addition and multipliation rules. Be able to count and find
sample sizes, using a table.

Permutation and Combinations Be able to find probabilities for situations when there is replacement and when
there is not replacement. Recall the formulas:
**All items are different:
n!
(n r )!

n!
n1 ! n2 ! nk !
(3.2)
n Pr
**Combinations
nCr

If given a confidence interval and a percentage of error, know how to find p and the error. Be able to express it as
p E
Find a sample size Be able to find a sample size when the sample proportion is not known, and when it is known.
Understand how to use the formulas:
n=
n=
[z /2 ]2 .25

[z /2 ]2 p q
