Stun Gun, Taser, Mace and Pepper Spray Laws in United

States of America
Did you know that stun guns are not considered firearms. However, there are some states that do
not allow you to carry them as a self defense weapon. You probably have questions on where can I
get one or the questions below.
Are stun guns or TASER devices legal?
Can I carry them or put them in my car?
Can I travel with it?
Can I take it to Mexico or other countries?
First, exactly which states allow or do not allow personal use of stun guns?

AL, AK, AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MN, MS, MO, MT, NE,
NV, NH, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WI, WV, WY and Puerto
Rico
If you are living in every other state, you are free to carry a stun gun with you at all times! Most
people carry stun guns in their cars or even bring them to other countries as a self defense device.
Contact your embassy before making an inquiry.
Connecticut allows stun guns to be used in homes only but is banned for carrying them on the
streets or outside personal safety of your home.

In Illinois you need a FOID card in order to carry a stun gun.

Indiana requires a TASER license in order to have a stun gun.
Wisconsin requires a CCW permit in order to carry a stun gun.
A special permit is necessary in Puerto Rico.
Now what about pepper spray laws? Pepper spray and mace are considered a less lethal form of selfdefense. Which is a good thing, since our freedom of rights allows us to protect ourselves and loved
ones at all costs.
There aren't any one state that bans complete use of pepper spray or mace, just limitations on how
much or how concentrated the spray can be.
New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, Wisconsin, California, and Washington D.C. are the only states
that have some laws that affect personal use of pepper spray and mace. Which, makes most sense
since you just want to make a offender flee, not cause physical permanent damage.
