The new edition of this popular manual has been extensively updated to reflect
advances in this field, while readers will also find new chapters on inherited and
cardiac disease.
Clinical case studies have been retained, allowing readers to consider how they
might approach common problems and see for themselves how test selection
and interpretation are applied. Body systems are dealt with in their own discrete
chapters, as are urinalysis, blood cells and proteins.
Full-colour photographs and illustrations can be found throughout, which will
prove indispensable to clinical pathologists, clinicians and veterinary students
keen to get to grips with a rapidly expanding subject.

Rehabilitation, Supportive and Palliative Care

Case Studies in Patient Management

Edited by: Samantha Lindley and Penny Watson

Companion animals are undergoing previously uncontemplated treatments
and surviving what would once have been rapidly fatal conditions. This manual
is aimed at the whole veterinary team, drawing on all their skills to help patients
achieve as full a function and quality of life as possible after surgery, trauma or
disease, and to manage chronic conditions effectively for the benefit of the
animal, owner and the practice team.
The principles of rehabilitation, supportive and palliative care are detailed in the
introductory chapters. The science behind pain and its management, clinical
nutrition and physical therapies is explored, and the clinical applications are
reviewed with reference to published evidence.
A unique feature of this manual is the case-based scenarios that
demonstrate how the principles of rehabilitation can be put into practice. The
cases cover such diverse topics as elbow arthritis in an elderly cat to

Surgical Principles
A Foundation Manual

Edited by: Stephen Baines,

Vicky Lipscomb and TimHutchinson
Meticulous attention to the basic
principles of surgery is critical if a
good surgical outcome is to be
achieved. In this increasingly
specialized world there is a need for
texts that provide clear in-depth
consideration of basic principles.
Many textbooks skip over these
building blocks, assuming that the
information will be learned from
elsewhere. This manual
encompasses everything the
surgeon should know before
beginning surgery and is therefore
an invaluable tool that every vet
should own and read before
wielding a scalpel.

individual chapters.
The manual is extensively illustrated with images of both normal anatomy and
abnormalities associated with disease. In addition, as the moving image is such
a vital part of interpreting ultrasound studies, a DVD featuring more than
100clips relevant to the individual chapters accompanies this manual.

Formulary

Editor in Chief: Ian Ramsey

Editor in Chief: Anna Meredith

The BSAVA Small Animal Formulary has been a mainstay for small animal
practitioners for over 20 years. The eighth edition continues to support the
profession with details on the drugs available for use in veterinary patients, as
well as supplementary information on prescribing, the responsible use of
antibacterials and safety and handling of medicines.

As the popularity of nontraditional pets grows, there is

an increasing need for
dedicated information on drug
use in these animals.
Following the tried and trusted
format of previous editions of
the Formulary, Part B covers
small mammals, birds,
reptiles, fish and amphibians.
It includes doses and other
species-specific information,
with references where
available, and useful
appendices including sedation
and chemotherapy protocols.
Part A of the ninth edition,
dedicated to cats and dogs, is
due for publication in 2017.

The Formulary directs veterinary practitioners to a series of Client Information

Leaflets made available by the BSAVA to its members; these can be used to
help practitioners fulfil their obligation to provide information to their clients
about the safe use of the drugs that they prescribe and dispense for patients
under their care.
In this latest edition, the chemotherapy and sedation protocols have been
separated from the general information in the Appendix, making them easier to
locate. A series of new immunosuppression protocols in the Appendix
enhances the complementary information provided in the Formulary.
