Objective
1. Motivating city dwellers to grow fresh vegetables in the proximity of major urban
centres of Chennai & Coimbatore.
2. Dissemination of cultivation technology to urban people of Chennai and
Coimbatore.
3. Provide Nutritional Security.
Area of Implementation
1. Chennai & Coimbatore metropolitan city areas.

Selection of Beneficiaries
1. All residents of Chennai and Coimbatore are eligible.
IV. Subsidy Pattern
1. 50% subsidy to the cost of Kit. A beneficiary can avail maximum of 5 units.

Scheme Implementation
1. Advertisement and Publicity should be given by the extension officials.
2. The details of the components cost of inputs and subsidy pattern will be available in
the http://tnhorticulture.tn.gov.in
3. The beneficiary can apply and pay 50% of cost either online or in person.
4. Do-it-yourself kit will be supplied from, Perambur, Annanagar and Thiruvanmiyur
depots of Chennai district and Deputy Director of Horticulture, Thadagam Road,
Coimbatore office.
5. The date and place of supply of inputs will be intimated through online or by
extension officials.
6. The beneficiary can get the Do-it yourself kit at specified place within the cutoff date
at their own expenses.
7. The beneficiary can avail up to maximum of 5 units.
8. A separate Bank account should be opened by DDH, Coimbatore and Chennai for
online payment and registration purpose exclusively for the scheme.
9. Beneficiary lists should be maintained and sent along with the progress report.

The progress report should be sent every fortnight ending 15th and 30/31st without

In response to the reference cited, the budget allocation for Do it yourself kit under
UHDS 2013-14 has been communicated. Now the guidelines for the implementation of the
scheme for the year 2013-14 is enclosed herewith.
It is requested to identify the beneficiaries immediately and kept ready for the distribution
of kit after the finalization of the tender.
Wider publicity should be given for the scheme. Since, it is announcement made by the
Honble Minister of Agriculture, Attention should be given and action taken should be reported to
this office immediately.

As per pre bid meeting held on 18.11.2013, It has been decided to modify the specification of

compressed cocopith with sealed polythene cover. The same has been issued as corrigendum on
25.11.2013. Hence, accordingly the specification modified and included in the revised guidelines.
A draft letter to DDH, Chennai and Coimbatore is put up for approval.

In the reference 1st cited. Govt. have accorded sanction for a sum of Rs.500.00
lakhs for the implementation of Do-it-yourself kit under Urban Horticulture Development
Scheme in Chennai and Coimbatore Metropolitan cities during 2013-14. A draft Guideline for the
implementation of UHDS is submitted for kind persual and approval.
