Multiculturalism, Citizenship and/ or Immigration
Contemporary theories of multiculturalism, which originated in the late
1980s and early 1990s, tend to focus their arguments on immigrants who are ethnic and religious minorities (e.g. Latinos in the U.S., Muslims in Western Europe), minority nations (e.g. Catalans, Basque, Welsh, Qubcois), and indigenous peoples Multiculturalism, for its part, developed out of the belief that group marginalisation often has yet deeper origins. Multiculturalism in Canada is the sense of an equal celebration of racial, religious and cultural backgrounds. Multiculturalism policy was officially adopted by Pierre Trudeau's government during the 1970s and 1980s
