researchhouseintheUK.Thecoilisvirtuallydestroyedafteronly4000hoursof
saltspray(sixmonths).

Treatyourexisting
HVACunitsonsitewithaneffectiveanticorrosioncoating.Oneofthemost
successfulcoatingsthatcanbeappliedonsiteisBlygoldsPoluAlXTcoating.Itis
averyeffectivewaytoprotectyourchillercoilsfromfurthercorrosionasthecoating
isasprayonapplication,asocalledpostcoatapplication'.Thiscoatingcanbe
appliedinsitu,hasametalpigmentationsotheconductivityofyourcoilsis
maintained,isUVresistantandboastsasaltandacidtestresistanceof4000
hours.
Ensurethatallnewcoilsaretreatedbeforeinstallationonyoursite.Thiswayyou
getthebestandmostaffordableoption.However,thisisonlyrelevantfornewunits
andwillnotbeavailabletoexistingunits.

includethoroughcleaningofthecoil,drying,applicationofanticorrosioncoating
frombothsidesofthecoils,coveringthefins,tubesandheaders.

PRECOATANDPOSTCOATANTICORROSIONCOATINGS
Therearethesocalledprecoatoptions,whichisacoatingappliedtobigsheetsof
aluminiumduringtheproductionprocess.Thesesheetsarethencutinstripsthe
widthofthecoilfinsandtheholesforthetubesarepunchedin.Thenthecoilisput
together.BluefinandGoldfinarethemostcommonlyknownofthesecoatings.
TheimagetotherightisaGoldfinprecoatedcoiltestedbytheBSRIAInstitutein
theUK.Thecoiliscorrodingsignificantlyafter1000hoursofsaltspray,i.e.a
monthandahalf.Corrosionismostevidentaroundthetubeswherethereisbare
aluminium.
Thebiggestadvantageofaprecoatprocessisthatitisfast,automatedandcheap.
Thebiggestdrawbackisthatitisnotveryeffectiveasitwillhavebarealuminium
wherethesheetshavebeencutandtheholesbeenpunched.Thisisexactlyaround
thetubesandtheedgesofthefins,wherenormallyyourcorrosionwilloccur.Othercoatingsmightdiporsubmergethecoils.Advantageis
thatitischeaper,butalsothatthecoatingthicknessisuneven,mostcoatingsarenotUVresistantandthecoatingcantbeappliedor
maintainedonsite.
Themosteffectiveoptionistoapplytheearliermentionedpostcoatingonthenew
coilstoo,whichmeansthatthecoatingisappliedafterthecoilhasbeenfully
assembled.Thecoatingisappliedwithasprayonapplicationandthecoatingwill
notonlycoverthefins,butalsotheconnectionbetweenthefinsandthetubesand
thetubesthemselvesaswellastheheaders.Thiswayyoullgetafullyprotected
coilthatcanstopthecorrosionfromoccurring.
TheimagetotherightisSprayonapplicationofcoatingonnewcoil.Thiscoating
is:Blygoldpolyurethanebasedcoatingwithmetalpigmentation,isonly25microns
thickoncedryisflexibleandUVresistant,issaltandacidsprayresistanceof4000

Youmightnowthink,whataboutthenewestcoilsthataremadeoutofaluminium
only?Surelytheydontneedprotection?Well,wehavetodisagreehereasthese
MCHXaluminiumcoils(MCHXstandsforMultiChannelHeatExchanger)obviously
