SUMMARY OF NEW CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE THESIS 1. A space vector modulation technique for Z-source inverters with simpler algebraic calculations was introduced. By thoroughly analyzing the switching patterns in different operating modes, this work shows a proper way to choose what pulse patterns that most suited for firing pulses in the Z-source inverter. 2. Modelling the Z-source inverter fed by a current source. Using nonlinear control methods to design the voltage loop to ensure input Z network voltage track the reference values. The voltage loop was designed, firstly by adaptive backstepping to cope with unknown systems parameters (L and Cpv), and secondly by exact linearization method. In the application of the converter in photovoltaic (PV) systems, the designed nonlinear controllers are integrated with maximum power point tracking algorithm and AC loop controllers to guarantee grid-connected mode of the PV system. Both proposed controllers were validated by offline and hardware-inthe-loop simulations in different operating conditions of the PV system. 3. Modelling the Z-source inverter fed by a voltage source. Designing a nonlinear controller to stabilize constant voltage over C1 and C2 in the Z network based on adaptive backstepping against load varying. In the application of the converter, that controlled a permanent magnet synchronous generator of wind power system, the proposed nonlinear control is integrated with AC loop controllers to ensure the power exchange in grid-connected mode, or stabilizing load voltage in standalone mode. The control strategy was verified by offline and hardware-in-theloop simulations in a wide range of wind speed. 4. Experimental tests were performed on a Z-source inverter prototype in grid-connected and standalone modes. Digital control system is implemented on DSP TMS320F2812. Hanoi, Day Month Advisors
