mind,thelastSelutaaroftherealmalongwithUlaiertheSilent,theSrinshee,andvariousSelutaar
fromCormanthorandEaerlann,firstlygrewthetreecityaroundtheoldestWeirwoodintheforest.
Fromthispointtheysanctifiedanarea4milesindiametertobethehomeoflastresortforthewood
elvesoftheforestandthosewhochosepeaceandcommunionwithnatureoverthepursuitofpower.
Theconstructionofthecitytookanother5yearsastheelvesworkedinclosepartnershipwiththe
inhabitantsofYrlaanceltobuildaselfsustaininglandthatwouldsheltertheelvesfromtheworstofthe
depredationsofgoblinkin,giantsanddrow.Theendresultwasashiningexampleofelvenarchitecture
thatcombinedhighmagicandnatureinaseamlessblend.Onmidwintersnight,underafrostystar
filledskythemythalwaslaidandthecitywasnamedRystalmyth,lastredoubtofthewoodelves.

lifesothatthemythalmightlive.Insacrificingherself,theGoddessesofnaturerewardedherby
transformingherintoanElderTreant,thesacredguardianoftheMythal,thecityanditscitizens.
Elahariahcontributedthegreatestpowersofthemythal,joiningherinthecentralcirclewereUailerthe
Silent,theSrinshee,RhigairStarsong,SelutaarofEaerlann,YsmyrldaMornmist,SelutaarofWindsong

TheMythal
Themythalstretches500yardsabovethetallesttreesinthecityandreaches500yardsbelowthe
deepestroots.Thecityitselfsitsatthecenterofthemythalinconcentricringsoftreebuildings,granite
spiresandgrounddwellings,whichreachesout2milesineverydirectionfromthecentraltree.
PowersoftheMythal
1.Anelaborateillusionthatcannotbedispelledcloaksthecityandsurrounds,makingittotally
undetectableinwaystothesenses(magical,psionic,ormundane)ofhumans,beholders,undead,giants
andgiantkin,goblinkin,ogres,ordinaryorcs,evildrow,alldragonsandduergar.Halfelvescanseethe
townasahazyoutlineinmoonlightthroughthetrees.Themythalteleportsanycreature,incapableof
seeingthecity,totheoppositesideofwhereitmakescontact.Theteleportationisinstantaneousand
unnoticeable,soapersoncanseeminglywalkstraightthroughthecitywithoutnoticingitsexistence.
ThemythalalsoactsasawallofsoldstonetoTannari,BaatezuandYugoloths.

2.Adimensionallockcoverstheentireareawithinthemythal.Anyformofdimensionaltravelsimply
doesnotwork.Thisincludesgating,etherealtravel,passwalls,dimensiondoorsandthelike.This
extendstopsionicsandnaturalsabilitiesofallcreatures,exceptforsomereasonwhiteunicorns,blink
dogs,moonhorsesandcathshee.

3.Fire,normalandmagicalsimplywillnotworkexceptinspeciallydesignedhearths,ovensandforges.
Thesecretformakingtheseiscloselyguarded,andflamesseekingtogetawayfromthesedevicesare
immediatelysnuffedout.Thisprohibitionextendstoanyfireusingabilitiesofcreaturesandespecially
fire/heatbasedusingcreaturesthatareimmediatelyexpelledfromthemythaltotheelementalplaneof
ice.

4.Thoseinsidethemythalofcannotbelocatedbyanymeansshortofawishspellorbyasummons
fromthegodsofthecityofwhichtherearejustsix.

andcanseeit,comesintocontactwiththemythalwhenacrescentmoonisvisibleinthesky,theycan
piercethebarrierandenterthecity.Acreaturecapableofseeingthetowncanpiercethemythalatany
pointandenteratthistime.

bows,spears,arrowswandsandstavesetc,gainanimmediatenonmagical+1andaremuchmore

35%.
16.Thecityisonlyvisibletowoodelvesandthoseworshippersofthesixpatrongodswhohavebeen
welcomedinandattunedtothemythal.Anybeingattemptingtoenterthecityviaacharm,shape
changeorothertrickeryisimmediatelysurroundedbyfaeriefireandsubjecttoatemporalstasiseffect.
Eveniftheintrudersavesagainstit,theyarethenteleported500milesawayinarandomspherical

DescriptionoftheCity

RystalmythisbuiltinthenorthendofRystalwood,30milessouthofYraancel,seemingtospringup
fromthegroundjustlikethetreesthroughoutthecity.Infact,manytall,broadtreesarelargerthan
severalofthecitysredgranitetowers,givingtheimpressionthatthetowersaremerelynaturalgrowths
withintheforest,andjustasinthecityofMythDyraalis,theMotherTreant(theHighMageElahariah
SilverhawktransformedintoanElderTreant),dominatesthecityscenter,itsmassivecentraltrunk
ringedbytheupperpathsandsuspensionbridgesleadingtoothertrees.Buttressesshapedfromformer
branchesarcdownintothegroundandsupportthetreesweightbybecomingrootedthere.Thereisno
placewithintheradiusofthemythalwheretheMotherTreantsrootsdonotspread.Somehollowtrees
followtheMotherTreantsexampleasmajorbuildings,buttheyaremuchsmallerandhaveno
buttresses.

Thecityslowestdwellingsare80feetabovetheground,andthefirstbridgesamongthebranchesbegin
another50feetabovethat.Thereare6entrancestothesettlementabovefromtheforestfloor,and
thesetreetrunksecretdoorsarewellhidden(1onallchancesforallwhoarenotSyTelQuessir)and
wellguarded(interiorstairsuptolowguardposts;stairsandpostsdefendedbyatleast8F4orR4and1
ormoreW4).Alarmsareeasilysoundedamongtheelvestowarnofintrudersorapproachingdangers,
thoughtomanyoutsiders,thealarmsoundsliketheydisturbedaflockofbirds.

Theelvesmaintainconstantpatrolsof812elfwarriors(2ndlevelandup)againstintrudersforuptoa
10mileradiusaboutthecity.Theydonotpreventanimalsortheirallies(centaurs,satyrs,dryads,etc.)
fromapproachingthecity.Inall,Rystalmythconsistsofovera100hugetreeshollowedoutforhomes
(orbuiltuphutsattachedtothetrunk),andallareconnectedbybranchesorropebridges.The
settlementrangesfrom80500feetabovetheforestfloor,

Thecityhasnowalls,meaningthatenteringthecityisamatterofwalkingwhereveragapcanbefound
betweenthebuildingsandgreattrees.Manytracksandpathsflowoutwardfromthecitycenter,
allowingcitizenstoenterwhereverisconvenientuponarrival;similarly,leavingthecityisamatterof
findingtheshortestroutetotheedgeofthebuildings.Thepathscoveredwithsoftmossesandlichen
coveredgranitecobbles,wendtheirwaythroughthecityinaratherhaphazardfashion.Thefew
buildingsinthecityclustertogetheringroupsofthreetofivetowers;thepathsflowaroundthem.

Thecityhasmanywildlookingparkswithsmallpatchesofgrassandstreamsthatfeedintoplacidpool,
whichiswherethecitysinhabitantscangatheroutsidetheirhomes.Theelvesmakesurethat
Rystalmythisconstantlyfilledwithgardens,streams,andsmalllakes,whichgivestheimpressionthat
thecityandtheforestsurroundingitgrewupatthesametime.Therearemanylibraries,amagicschool
teachinglostarts,andbuildingsforusebyvisitors.

TheOutskirts

Severalsettlementsexistoutsidethecityproper.Scatteredoutforamileineverydirection,these
hamletsandfarmfletsarecollectivelyknownastheoutskirts.Mostofthefoodforthecityisbroughtin
fromfarmsintheoutskirts.Thefarmsoftheoutskirtsaresomewhatunconventionalintheirmethods
andappearance.Mostofthefarmsappeartobelittlemorethanhomesbuiltatrandominthedeep
forest.Farmersintheoutskirtstakeextracareintheplantingofcertaintrees,andtheirgroundgrown
cropsFarmersfromtheoutskirtsharvesttheircropsyearroundandincarefulrotation.Everyfew
weeks,afarmerbringsaportionofhisorherharvesttothecitytoselltocitydwellers.Thestallsof
thesefarmersdotthestreetcornersthroughoutRystalmythatalltimes,andinhabitantsofthecityhave
favoritefarmersthattheyprefertobuyfromwheneverpossible.

ThecityisgovernedbyacouncilmadeupofrepresentativesofallthemajorwoodelfandOndonti
clans,theleadersofthehalfling,darkelf,andgnomecommunities,andpriestsofthesixtempleswithin
thecity.

militiacanmusteranother2500soulsatfullstrength,butmostareeithertooyoung,tooimportantor
toofarpasttheirprimetobefrontlinetroops.

TheHallofGuardianswasgrownfrom3stoutoaktreesduringtheraisingofthemythaltoformasingle
giantplant300widewithacircularhollowedhall100wide,withaceilingandwallsmadefromliving
wood.ItisherethattheShadowsoftheForestarebased.Manytreehomes,hallsandfletsaretobe
foundhighupinthespreadingbranchesofthisgreatredoubt.Amistwardcanbecalledtocoverthe
entiretreekeep,thatallowsdefenderstoseeoutbutattackerstoseenothingbutdense,greyfog.
Alongitssidesare50greatsemicircularalcoves,ineachisagiantelvenwarriorstatue20tall,kneeling
andwithitsheadslightlyinclinedtowardthemiddleofthehall.Theeasternendofthishallissealedby
asetofgreatdoubledoors,coveredinareliefcarvingsofpeacefulwoodlandscenes.Thishugesetof
stonedoubledoorsiscoveredwithareliefcarving.Itdepictstengiantelvenwarriorsstandingina
defensivecirclearoundagreattree.AncientEspruancarvingsuponthedoorreadlifeequalswhite
water,endlessfire,silverearth,andgoldenair.Gowellwithsweetwaterandlightlaughteruntilwe
meetagain.Eachofthelifelikestatuesismadeoffinegranite.Theelvenwarriorsarearmedwith
genuinelookinggreatbows,greatswords,andquiversfullofjavelinsizedarrows.Ifthemythalisever
breachedandthewardmistactivatedthenthesestatues(thatcontainthespiritsofelvenwarriors)will
animateandattackallintruders.

longswords&longbowswithfullquivers.BehindtheelfandbetweentheOndontiisagongmadeof
azurebluetheurcrystal.Hangingnexttothegongisasoundinghammermadeofadamantine.Ifthe
cityiseverunderthreatthegongissoundedanditssonorousringcanbeheardthroughoutthemythal.
Itsringingisthesignalfortheforestguardtoassemble.Ifthegongisevershatteredthenthewardmist
comesintobeingandtheguardiangolemswillactivate.

TheSoulForge
CarvedintothebaseofagiantweirwoodtreeisaOndontiandElvensmithyfivemetaldoubledoorways
allowaccesstothegroundfloorforgesandupperfloorstorageandlivingquarters.Inthecenterofthe
hall,theimageofaflamingswordisengravedintothestonefloor.Theentireceiling,some30above,
hasbeencarvedinrelief.

TheChamberofLife

AnaturalhollowdeepbeneaththebuttressedrootsoftheGrandMotherTreantholdsthecitys
greatesttreasuresofRystalmyth.Initscenterisastoneplatformnearlythreefeethigh.Uponrestingin
atheurglassurnisatreemadefromamilkywhitecrystal.Thetreewhichresemblesaminiatureoak,
glowswithasoftwhitelight,andgivesoffalow,calminghumthatactslikeacalmingandremovefear
affecttoallwithinthechamber.Symbolsandpicturesinlaidthegranitewallofthechamberdepictthe
sixpatrondeitiesinvariousstatesofreposeplatformandthemonuments.Thesymbolsanddrawings
areinlaidemeraldandseemtobenaturallyoccurringwithintherock.Thechamberiseasily50wide
withaceilingofbuttressedrootsrising30above.Thechambercanonlybeaccessbythehighpriests
andSelutaarofthecity.Anyonewhostepsintothechamberuninvitedwillbestruckfromallsidesby
numerousboltsofenergy,attemptingtosendthemintotheelementalplaneofice,causing1d10hpdg
perstrike.Thiscrystaltreeistheheartandsoulofthecityanditsmythal.Thechamberitselfis
guardedby8watchnorns.HighlevelWoodElvenBladeSingerswhovolunteeredtolookafterthecitys
treasures.Hiddenin8vaultsthatleadofffromthecentralchamberarethechambersthatholdmuchof
Rystalmythsmostsacredtreasures.

Therearedozensofswords,bows,arrows,shields,andarmor(mostlychain);thousandsofgold,silver,
andcoppercoins;hundredsofgemsandmanydelicatelycarvedfigurines.Thetreasureisarrangedon
carvedshelvesandkeptinstuffedinchestsandoverflowingcoffers.Itincludes:

withwindowsallaround.Atnighttheairwithinthetoproomsglowwithcapturedstarlight,asdoesthe
roofofthetower.ThemagicallightisclearlyvisibleformilestothosewhoareattunedtotheMythal,
giventheheightsatwhichthetowersrest.Thesetwintowersarelinkedviaavineswingbridge,at
nightthesoundsofthedistantEndlessSeaechothroughtheirotherwiseemptychambersandremind
theelvesoftheirancientIslandhomesonTintageer.

PriestessofEilistraeeandTelandanMornmistWoodElfFemale,PriestessofEldath.Thethreeladies
workinpartnershiptopromotecooperationbetweenthethreeracesofWoodElves,Humans,anddark
Elves.Aftertraininghere,allpriestessesmoveoutintosurroundingcommunitiestopreachthewords
oftheGoddesses,eventhougheachisthoughttohavefallenorbeenabsorbed,thepriestesseshereall

TheRystalwoodtendstofallintotwodistincthalves,inthewestclosesttotheAnaurachconifersmake
upthebulkofthetrees,andtheygrowindensestands.Moredeadfallandunderbrushcoversthe
groundswithintheforest,andsometalkofpineconesheavyenoughtoknockamanout.especially
thosefromthebunyapines.ThetreesarefartallerthanmanyamongCormantorsglades,andthey
continuewellupintothemountainstothenorth.Onlywhentheelevationsrisemorethan2miles
abovesealeveldothetreesrevealthesnowcoveredpeaksneartheHighIce.Theforestisalsoriddled
withsmallstreamsthatfeedintotheparchedborderlandstothewest.Intheeasttheforestmore
closelyresemblesthatofCormanthor.Thewoodsherearelessdenselypackedthanthetreesofthe
desertborder,andtheyhavequiteamixtureoftrees,fromoaksandcedarstoduskwoodsandmaples,
allofvaryingagesandspecies.Treesarenottheonlyplantlifeherein;Rystalwoodsupportsmany
varietiesofberrybushes,groundcrawlingivy,andflowers.Streamsandpondssupportquiteafew
uniquestrainsofwaterliliesandotherplants.TheforestishometomanyLythari,sprites,dryads,
brownies,centaurs,satyrsandfauns,andmanyotherbeneficialsylvanraces.However,therearealso
manydangerswithintheforestduetoitsnativeorcsgoblins,gnolls,ogres,wolves,afewlycanthropes
andgiantspiders,andasmatteringofgreendragonsandwyverns.
