COUNSELING
-the provision of assistance and guidance in resolving personal, social, or psychological
problems and difficulties, especially by a professional. A short term process that
encourages the change of behavior.
- The goals of counseling are Enhancing Coping Skills, Facilitate Behavior Change,
Promote Decision making and Improving Relationship.
-Psychodynamic Approach, Humanistic Approach, Behavioral Approach, Cognitive
Approach.
PSYCHOTHERAPY
-The treatment of a behavior disorders, mental illness, or any other condition by
psychological means. Psychotherapy may utilize insight, persuasion, suggestion,
reassurance, and instruction so that patients may see themselves and their problems
more realistically and have the desire to cope effectively with them
-It is an intervention that is aimed at correcting the negative thoughts or misguiding
philosophy that is in an individual. According to (William Coke, Ph.D.) the primary goals
of Psychotherapy are:
1) To know yourself better.
2) Alleviate emotional pain or confusion.
3) Assist you in developing a more complete understanding of your psychological
issues.
4) Establish more effective coping mechanisms.
5) Foster a more accurate understanding of your past and what you want for your future

Approach.

The success of Psychotherapy will be measured or will be seen when there is a


development and changed occurred in the behavior of the client or patient. Problems
comes from different happenings in our lives it could be from Broken heart, stress from

school, bad influence of Friends etc. but, the primary root of individuals problem is
usually rooted in the Family which could affect ones thoughts, feelings and emotion that
might be the reason of isolating one self and hinders establishing intimate relationship
in the family.
Many clients or patients, before they undergo psychotherapy they are actually
have problems psychologically and emotionally because of the Problems arose in their
lives. Some of them seems like not carrying problems when you look at them physically
but many of us do not know that they are suffering from those problems. Sometimes the
people we always see smiling are actually the people who are carrying pains inside.
That what makes Psychotherapy important to anyone. Many patient or client became
more productive and efficient in life. Patients/Clients feel better which will make them to
be more open in others even in to theirselves and try their very best in work, school and
in their family.
For me based on what I experienced when we are doing psychotherapy in class I
have been emotional sharing situation that made me so mad and gave so much pain to
me and that is because I was not able to overcome it, it still inside of me, It still dwells in
my heart and in my mind. When I shared it to the whole class, It made me feel better
and made me sensitive on what others problem. After that session I felt free from the
problem that I cannot overcome before plus the advice of my professor that really
helped me to let go of what I cannot let go before; after that I became open to my family
to my friends and I am now capable of establishing intimate relationship with them. Im
now improving myself which I cannot before. I became confident to myself more and I
became optimistic. Thats where the success of psychotherapy will be measured if ones
behavior have changed from negative to positive and when he/she can do the things
that he/she is not able do before.
