Volleyball is a game where players hit a ball back and forth across a net with their hands or

arms. It is a team sport played by two teams of 6 players each on a playing court divided by a
net. William J. Morgan, a Physical Education instructor in Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA, invented
volleyball (mintonette) in 1895. He combined the main features of tennis with a ball of the
basketball type. The name of this net game was derived from the word volley, a term used in
tennis meaning to hit the ball on fly. Indoor volleyball became an official sport of the Olympic
Games in 1964. More than150 nations belong to the International Volleyball Federation, an
organization that sponsors annual tournament.
EQUIPMENT AND MEASUREMENTS:

RULES and REGULATIONS:
1. The game starts with a toss coin.
2. Winner of the toss selects either the court or the right to serve first.
3. The ball is put into play by a service.
4. When the serving team commits a fault, a side-out is called by the referee and service
changes side.
5. The ball must be clearly hit. Holding and dribbling shall be considered as faults.
6. The first team who reaches the twenty-five points will be declared as the winner of the set.
The best of five sets is the winner.
