Betamethasone- a glucocorticoid used to prevent respiratory distress
syndrome in infants. This medicine causes hyperglycemia in the mother,
which predisposes the neonate to hypoglycemia in the first hours of delivery. Leukemia- low platelet counts so they are prone to bleeding. Transfusion of platelets reduces bleeding time. Digoxin toxicity- vomiting, slow heart rate, anorexia Myasthenia Gravis- diplopia, loss of bladder and bowel control, tingling (hands, face, thigh muscles) progressive weakness of the diaphragmatic and intercostal muscles Magnesium Sulfate- Excessive levels of magnesium can suppress neuromuscular transmission- watch for resp. depression Monitor FHR before and during therapy Monitor Urine Output: <25ml/hr-30ml/hr= toxicity over 100 ml/hr=toxicity Maternal deep tendon reflexes- absent means toxicity
