Capital gacha do trabalho, Caxias do Sul tornou-se, ao longo

do tempo, a Caxias da diversidade, abrigando uma riqueza
mpar em termos histricos, tnicos e culturais. Localizada na
serra do Nordeste do Rio Grande do Sul, a cidade o bero
da Festa Nacional da Uva, a Capital Mundial dos Centros de
Tradies Gachas e a Capital Brasileira da Cultura.

Devoted to hard work, Caxias do Sul has over time become

a city of diversity, harboring a unique richness in historical,
ethnic and cultural terms. Located in the mountainous region
of northeastern Rio Grande do Sul, the city is the birthplace of
the National Grape Festival, the World Capital of the Gaucho
Traditions Centers and the Brazilian Capital of Culture.

It is important to recall that all this development began with the

families of Italian immigrant farmers who came to this land,
overcame adversity and consolidated their labors in the fields.
For this reason, in addition to industry, Caxias also boasts
an agricultural sector which in its pursuit of excellence
is constantly improving. The city is the largest supplier of
vegetables for the Porto Alegre Wholesale Produce Market and
has a high Gross Domestic Product in Rio Grande do Sul.
The citys population continues to grow. It has expanded by
approximately 20.8% over the last ten years, exceeding the
average population growth of the state and country, according
to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
Investments in infrastructure have thus become essential
to ensure that the city will continue developing in an orderly
fashion and in harmony with the environment, without
neglecting the social dimension, well-being and quality of life of
its inhabitants. Currently, the city invests more than 50% of its
budget on Health, Education and the Social Area.

Product) in Brazil, the 4th largest in the South Region (Paran,

INFRASTRUCTURE

O sistema de transporte areo conta com um aeroporto ligando

Caxias do Sul ao centro do pas, com conexes para qualquer
parte do Brasil. classificado no Plano Aerovirio do Estado do
Rio Grande do Sul (PARGS) como Aeroporto Nacional, servindo
mais de 34 municpios da regio da Serra do Rio Grande do
Sul.

The air transportation system has an airport linking Caxias

do Sul to the center of the country, with connections to any
part of Brazil. It is classified in the Airway Plan of Rio Grande
do Sul (PARGS) as a National Airport, serving more than 34
municipalities in the Gaucho Highlands of Rio Grande do Sul.

A malha rodoviria da regio utilizada para a exportao

de produtos. As passagens da BR-116 e da RS-122, ligando
Caxias do Sul a Porto Alegre, capital do estado, e ao resto do
Brasil, favorecem o fluxo de entrada de matrias-primas e a
sada de produtos industrializados e agropastoris.
A malha viria da cidade vem crescendo rapidamente para
atender as necessidades de locomoo da populao. Esse
fato devido ao aumento populacional, ao crescimento
geomtrico do nmero de veculos em circulao e ao
incremento quantitativo do transporte coletivo.
A regio conta ainda com a Estao Aduaneira Interior, que
realiza operaes de fiscalizao e desembarao aduaneiro,
bem como servios de movimentao e armazenagem de
mercadorias. Isso representa menos encargos e menos tempo
para que o importador/exportador processe seus negcios com
outros pases.
Com uma ampla rede de distribuio de energia eltrica
atendendo a totalidade de residncias, Caxias do Sul est no
nvel de pases da Europa Ocidental. A distribuio de gs
natural vem crescendo num curto perodo, sendo o segmento
industrial o maior consumidor. O Gs Natural Veicular (GNV)
est se difundindo rapidamente pelo municpio.

A qualidade da gua de Caxias do Sul considerada uma das
melhores do pas para consumo. Para garantir o abastecimento
no futuro, est sendo implantando o Sistema Marrecas. O
manancial, localizado no Distrito de Vila Seca, ter vazo de
900 litros por segundo. A obra inclui implantao de Adutoras
de gua Bruta e Tratada, Estao de Tratamento de gua e
Barragem.
Caxias do Sul um municpio pioneiro em coleta mecanizada
de lixo, nos mesmos moldes de pases da Europa Ocidental.
Quanto coleta seletiva de lixo, a cidade um dos municpios
com um dos maiores ndices do Pas.

The regions road network is used for the export of products.

The BR-116 and RS-122 highways, connecting Caxias do
Sul to Porto Alegre, the state capital, and the rest of Brazil,
facilitate the inflow of raw materials and the output of
manufactured and agricultural products.
The citys road network has been growing rapidly to meet the
mobility needs of local residents, due to the rise in population,
the progressive growth in the number of vehicles and the
quantitative increase of public transport.
The region also has an Inland Customs Station, which engages
in inspection and customs clearance operations, as well as
services involving the handling and storage of goods. This
results in fewer fees and less time spent by importers and
exporters in carrying out their business activities with other
countries.
With its extensive electricity distribution network serving all
the citys residences, Caxias do Sul is on par with Western
European countries. The use of natural gas has been growing
recently, with the industrial sector being the largest consumer.
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is spreading rapidly throughout
the city.
The quality of the water in Caxias do Sul is considered one of
the best in the country in terms of consumption. To ensure its
future supply, the Marrecas System is being set up. The spring,
located in the Vila Seca District, will generate a flow of 900
liters per second. The work includes the implementation of
Untreated and Treated Water Pipelines, a Water Treatment Plant
and a Dam.
Caxias do Sul is leading the way in automated garbage
collection, in the same manner as countries in Western Europe.
As far as selective waste collection, the city has one of the
highest rates in the country.

TURISMO

TOURISM

Caxias do Sul, juntamente com outros municpios da regio,

faz parte da Regio Turstica Uva e Vinho. Essa regio tem
atrado turistas de todas as partes do pas. Mensalmente
so contabilizadas mais de 15 mil visitas nos principais
pontos tursticos. Alm dos visitantes que vm a lazer, Caxias
recebe diariamente dezenas de pessoas que se deslocam a
negcios e utilizam a infraestrutura turstica existente: hotis,
restaurantes e demais servios da cidade.

Caxias do Sul, along with other municipalities in the area, is

part of the Grape and Wine Tourism Region. This region attracts
tourists from all parts of the country. The main touristic sights
receive a total of over 15,000 visits per month. In addition to
the visitors who come for leisure, dozens of people come daily
to Caxias for business purposes and use the existing tourism
infrastructure: hotels, restaurants and other services in the city.

O setor de eventos tambm se beneficia da rede hoteleira,

que oferece espaos para a realizao de feiras e congressos.
Realizada desde 1931 para celebrar o progresso da viticultura,
introduzida pelos imigrantes italianos, a Festa da Uva a
principal atrao turstica do municpio. A festa acontece de
dois em dois anos. A prxima edio acontecer no ano de
2014.

which provides venues for holding trade fairs and congresses.
Held since 1931, to celebrate achievements in viticulture,

tendo apresentado elevao de 2,5% no bloco Educao e
estabilidade no bloco Saneamento e Domiclios. J os blocos
Renda e Sade apresentaram retrao no perodo (-1,3% e
-0,5% respectivamente). Vale mencionar, ainda, que Caxias do
Sul apresenta todas as dimenses com indicadores acima de
0,800 - que considerado alto desenvolvimento (FEE, 2012).

ensino fundamental e mdio e com 26 instituies de ensino
superior (universidades e faculdades) alm de cursos tcnicos
especializados. O destaque para a Universidade de Caxias do
Sul.

Caxias do Sul currently has many elementary and secondary

schools, as well as 26 higher education institutions (universities
and colleges), apart from specialized technical courses. The
most prominent one is the University of Caxias do Sul.

A atuao do SIMECS foi fundamental para consolidar uma
antiga reivindicao do setor metalrgico regional: a instalao
em Caxias do Sul do Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Sul.
Alm de formar tcnicos e tecnlogos em Metalurgia, o IFRS
ser abrangente, atendendo diversos setores e atividades
dentro da rea, desenvolvendo estudo e composio de
materiais.

The involvement of SIMECS was instrumental for securing a
long-standing demand of the regional metallurgical industry:
establish the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul, in Caxias
do Sul. In addition to training technicians and technologists in
Metallurgy, it will be comprehensive in scope, serving different
sectors and activities within the segment, developing the study
and composition of materials.

ESCOLA TCNICA ESTADUAL

Instalada em Caxias do Sul, visa a formao profissional
em vrias reas da tecnologia. Atua tambm na preparao
industrial, desde projetos at o produto final, nos cursos de
Metalurgia, Mecnica e Segurana do Trabalho.

STATE TECHNICAL SCHOOL

Established in Caxias do Sul, the State Technical School
endeavors to provide professional training in different areas
of technology. It also operates in industrial preparation,
ranging from designs to finished products, in the Metallurgy,
Mechanical Occupational Safety courses.

SENAI
O Servio Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial (SENAI) opera
cursos nas categorias de aprendizagem industrial, qualificao,
treinamento e tcnicos de ensino mdio. Caxias do Sul conta
com cinco escolas do SENAI.

SENAI
The National Service of Industrial Learning (SENAI) offers
courses in the categories of industrial learning, qualification,
training and technical courses for high school. Caxias do Sul

AUTOTRNICA
Visando atender o setor automotivo com a formao e
qualificao da mo de obra para esse segmento, o Centro
Tecnolgico Automotivo de Caxias do Sul ministra ensino
tcnico profissionalizante para jovens e qualifica trabalhadores
empregados ou que estejam buscando emprego.

AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONICS
In order to provide the automotive industry with trained and
qualified manpower, the Automotive Technology Center of
Caxias do Sul offers technical vocational courses for young
people and trains workers who are either employed or seeking
employment.

MECATRNICA
Caxias do Sul conta com o Centro Tecnolgico de Mecatrnica,
cujo objetivo a pesquisa e a prtica dos resultados da
conjuno entre a mecnica e a eletrnica.

MECHATRONICS
Caxias do Sul has a Mechatronics Technology Center whose
goal is to study and put into practice the results arising from
the union between mechanics and electronics.

CURSO TCNICO EM METALURGIA - SENAI

O prdio do Curso Tcnico em Metalurgia atender junto ao
Complexo do Centro de Mecatrnica e do Centro Tecnolgico
Automotivo Autotrnica. O local oferecer cursos de curta
e mdia durao para a comunidade, bem como servios
tcnicos e tecnolgicos na rea de metalurgia.

TECHNICAL COURSE IN METALLURGY - SENAI

The building for the Technical Course in Metallurgy will house
both the Mechatronics Center and the Automotive Technology

Caxias tem a segunda maior frota de veculos do Rio Grande

do Sul. O Detran/RS divulgou um estudo sobre a frota de
veculos, a distribuio por regies, o ndice de motorizao
nas cidades e a posio do RS em relao aos outros estados.
A mdia de um veculo para cada dois habitantes na cidade.

Sul. Detran/RS released a study on the vehicle fleet, including
a breakdown by regions, the motorization rate in cities and Rio
Grande do Suls ranking in relation to other states. The average
is one vehicle for every two inhabitants in the city.

STEEL AND GAS CONSUMPTION

O segmento metalmecnico, atravs de sua forte

representatividade na economia do municpio, tem o ao como
principal matria-prima de consumo. A produo brasileira de
ao bruto atingiu, 2012 um total de 34,5 milhes de toneladas.
Com relao ao consumo, Caxias do Sul tem uma importante
participao em nvel nacional e estadual. Para se ter uma
ideia, as empresas do segmento do SIMECS absorvem 60%
do ao consumido no Rio Grande do Sul. J em nvel nacional,
o consumo local corresponde a aproximadamente 3% do ao
plano comercializado no Brasil.

The metal-mechanic sector, due to its strong representation

in the citys economy, consumes a large amount of steel, as
its main raw material. Brazilian crude steel production a total
of 34,5 million tons in 2012. In terms of consumption, Caxias
do Sul accounts for a considerable share at the national and
state level. For example, the companies from the segment
represented by SIMECS absorb 60% of the steel consumed
in Rio Grande do Sul. In turn, at the national level, local
consumption corresponds to approximately 3% of the flat steel

Por outro lado, as empresas de Caxias do Sul, representadas

pelo Sindicato das Indstrias Metalrgicas, Mecnicas e de
Material Eltrico consomem, por ms, em torno de 70% do
total do gs natural que abastece o setor industrial da cidade
atravs do gasoduto, o que significa mais de dois milhes de

of the total natural gas that supplies the citys industrial sector
via the gas pipeline, in other words, more than two million

O SIMECS Sindicato das Indstrias Metalrgicas, Mecnicas

e de Material Eltrico de Caxias do Sul, fundado em 25 de
novembro de 1957, nasceu da associao das indstrias
regionais. Com sede em Caxias do Sul e abrangendo outros
17 municpios, est instalado em uma das regies que mais
crescem no Brasil e ostenta hoje a condio de uma das
maiores entidades sindicais patronais do sul do pas no seu
segmento. Voltado capacitao humana e tecnolgica das
empresas, o SIMECS est sempre atento s necessidades
especficas de sua categoria, estimulando a melhoria contnua.

SIMECS Trade Union of Metallurgical, Mechanical and Electric

Material Industries of Caxias do Sul, founded on November 25,
1957, was born from the association of regional industries.
Headquartered in Caxias do Sul, and encompassing 17 other
municipalities, it is established in one of the fastest growing
regions in the country and is currently one of the largest
employers unions in its segment in southern Brazil. With a
focus on human resources training and imparting technology in
companies, SIMECS is always attentive to the specific needs of
its sector and promotes continuous improvement.

Atravs de aes integradas, busca qualificar o nvel

tcnico-intelectual da mo de obra, das relaes de trabalho

realizadas programaes constantes para aperfeioamento

SIMECS esteja sempre promovendo a atualizao para induzir

maioria de pequenas e mdias empresas, o que permite maior

causes SIMECS to always be promoting modernization to spur
on growth in companies. The sector mostly consists of small
and medium-sized companies, which permits greater unity of
action insofar as guidance in legal/labor matters, occupational
health, quality, technology and training.
For all these reasons, SIMECS responsibility in relation to the
future of the region in which it operates is extremely significant.
The awareness of this commitment permeates the activities
undertaken by the organization in its different economic and
social areas of operation, as exemplified by the numerous
projects in the Automotive Metal-Mechanic Local Production
Arrangement of the Gaucho Highlands (APL MMA).

Report was launched in 2000, and has been published yearly in

actions undertaken by the industries from the metal-mechanic
