In order to develop skills on a personal level I plan to reflect upon each leadership style
chosen by each group member and how it was taken by the group at certain stages of our
development. I will attempt to take notes and listen to ideas shared between the group, and
follow and respect the leaders decision. In order to get the most out of discussions I will
need to be open minded when actively participating in group discussions. It is import to
always ask questions of relevance to determine the most accurate conclusions for myself.
Resources:
Self-reflection journal
Reading material
A treat in each drop box
Mentally prepare (i.e sleep and food)
Yoga and stimulus for relaxation
Barriers:
Working in groups:
Working in groups is a task of advantage to myself as I love group work, I find working to an
objective really rewarding when in a group, I also like hearing other opinions to further open
my mind for ideas and discoveries personally. Working in groups can also be limiting at times
depending on involvement and group dynamics. It is important to recognize the strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats to a group during each stage of development. This does
not mean logging a full journal of observations but addressing concerns and sharing support
between members.
Roles of contributing in a group:
Resources:
Considering the above roles to create a group atmosphere I believe that understanding
the dynamics is the first resource I can use. It is important to evenly contribute to the
group in order to interpret
Clear communication and addressing issues.
Being optomistic and having ideas ready to present.
Barriers:
Environmental Knowledge:
Having knowledge of the environment can assist in having a higher confidence whilst
traversing in the landscape. Knowing the environment will allow me to facilitate decision
making in terms of my actions and reflections. I have begun to build my knowledge of the
environment in terms of my course and Im deeply interested in the alpine environment as it
is unique in Australia. Hopefully I will be able to share some of my knowledge between the
group and I hope to benefit by asking other members and leaders about the environment to
gain more knowledge of the region.
Resources:
Indigenous uses and traditional ways of finding and preparing bush tucker.
Group field guides
Transect of alpine flora and fauna.
My leader Dan and other group members
Weather planning
Barriers:
Lack of interest of the group
Lack of resources
Leadership:
My leadership goals I hope will reflect on my ability and confidence to assist the group to the
goals of the day. I believe leadership is the ability to demonstrate a number of key skills to
motivate, enthuse and build respect whilst dealing with environmental, personal and group
situations that may be challenging. Dealing with situations can either be reflected on as a
professional in terms of safety considerations and can also be fun level when the situation is
favorable.
