Use Excel to solve each of the following problems. The use of Excel functions (instead of manual
calculations) and neat presentation of worksheets are highly sought after and will be rewarded. Name
your file with your full names and matric. numbers and also indicate same on top of your worksheets.
1. Suppose we are given the following square matrices:

Representing each matrix as an array, carry out each of the following matrix operations.
(a) A +B = C

(b) B + A = C

2. Determine, using the MMULT library function to carry out the matrix product AB = C for each of the
following pairs of matrix:

3. Solve the following system of simultaneous equations using Excel. Verify (on your own and not to be
submitted) that the method is correct using the manual, conventional method of mathematics.

Hint: (i) Re-write the system in matrix form i.e. AX = B where A is a 3 by 3 matrix of the coefficients, X
is a column matrix of the unknown variables
and B is a column matrix of the constant
terms.
(ii) Evaluate X = A-1B where A-1 is the inverse of matrix A (Use the MINVERSE and MMULT library
function)
