Our first semester's projects purpose is to be able to to collect a variety of different and

unusual plants, from different regions then classify and name them. The reason this is important
is because if you are living in a area you will need to be able to classify the types of plants that
are surviving in that area. When knowing this it will be easier to plant the appropriate plants and
turn them to successfully grow.
The first step to our project was to drive to few areas to find our plants. For example we
drive to a small lake to collect five perennials and seven weeds. Then we drove to a local park
to collect three woody plants needed. After this we randomly collected five other plants between
these two locations. When collecting these plants we simply used a razor blade to cut the
sample from the plant and then place them into the a large zip lock bag.
The next step we did was starting the pressing of the plants of the plants procedure. For
this step the process is simple, first we layout the plants on a sheet of printer paper then fold it
up neatly into a piece of news paper. Finally place the newspaper with the plant in between two
things of cardboard. After we did this for a twenty plants we stacks all of them up on top of one
another and added a twenty-five pound weight. Once the weight was added we waited two to
three weeks to remove the weight.
After the time period, unfold the the plant, replace the printer paper with a piece of card
stock. After the paper is replaced cut out a piece of stick and peel and place it on to the plant
and cardstock and fold it over the edge of the cardstock. After this step label the sheet of what
type of plant is was and repeat for each plant.
The next step we took was to classify each of the plants. This was the hardest step of
them all Because of the multiple and multiple different types. How was did it was we took all of
our data and the different characteristics to figure out what their names were. For example we
took the color texture and the habitats to find the plant if that didn't work then we added the leaf
type and what type of plant it is, weeds ,trees ,etc.
The final step of the project is to print out our collection data and attach them to the back
of the corresponding plant. Then hole punch them and put them neatly and in order into a
binder.
